How to dress like a vintage pin up beauty, and save your pennies!

Cheap and Chic

This squidoo is for the simple reason that I get loads of questions asking about how I made/customised the clothes I am wearing and manage to spend barely a penny so here's where you'll find out all of that.

From customised vintage Levi 501's and floral headbands to vamping up your old lifeless shoes, I'm here to show you that even in these dull recessional times it's so easy to remain chic. My style has a vintage feel, as I'm inspired by true classic beauties of the past!

So keep your eyes peeled and your purse full!

Love to you all,

Cheap and Chic.

Charity shop/ thrift store shopping for Vintage clothes.

Retro Shopping

It's important to remember to try sizes bigger (or smaller) than what you usually would wear when buying Vintage clothing and here's why:

Stunning vintage shoes from the 40s, 50s and 60s are quite a bit smaller than present day sizing, also the shoe materials may be tough and need to be worn in, it's important therefore to TRY THE SHOES ON to get a true feel of their size and fit.

This size rule most definately applies to the clothes, especially dresses! Lots of vintage pieces are stored in peoples wardrobes for years or have numerous previous owners, so they may've lost the sizing information or their tags before they madeit to the Charity shop and when that happens it's up to the shop employees to have a guess at the sizing to re-label it in a hurry to get it out on the shop floor. The result of this is that not all displayed sizes are accurate and the garments need trying. If you're not sure, try it on! If you put it on and fall in love with it and think creative; if it's too long, have it taken up. If its a little big, customise it with a cute waist belt. Remember some bargain vintage dresses are just too good to refuse!

Times are hard, so it's time to turn into a bargain hunting queen and learn to MAKE DO AND MEND.

Fashion

Shopping in Liverpool outfitFashion is ever changing and as fickle as ever. Yet, unemployment is at an all time low, tax is high and everyone is having to scrimp and save.
Just because we're in recession, does not mean we give up on looking good however. If ladies managed to draw on their stocking with eyeliner and coffee and wear old curtains as dresses in the World Wars, then we LADIES OF 2012 can still look elegant, edgey and on trend even in thisstinky financial climate.

High priced designer clothes as seen their hay day for now. I aim to share my tips of finding bargains by supporting your local charity shops, spotting a gem and fixing/customising/updating your wardrobe without splashing the cash. From simple tasks like updating buttons, to step-by-step guides on how to punk up and pin up your old jeans into unique ripped jean shorts for the Summer.

My style is heavily influenced by vintage fashion; inspired by the beautiful pin up models of the 40s and 50s and old fashioned film stars, so you'll see that influence in the outfits and clothing I buy.

Vintage

I want my own boutique so very badly as I love re-vamping vintage clothes, I'd have a The Classic Lady section with all the untouched original vintage clothing and then and The Mod One section for all the DIY, updated, modernised or fixed up clothing. And the Dirty Grunge, which would basically be a Doll's house of Grungey, studded, ripped, distressed and bleach vintage clothes, in a literal Doll's house sort of set up. Think Laura Ashley inspired interior, with trashy grunge clothing everywhere. It's my idea of heaven in a boutique.

Fashion of the past.

A well written lens. I probably won't be wearing a tea dress anytime soon... but good job.
