Bird Toys
A Sad Moment
Moving
Leaving my feathered friends was really a sad moment for me, I had many happy times in my backyard with my frequent visitors. Change can be hard, My new home did not have a large yard or the trees and I missed the relaxing times I had observing the antics of these little creatures.
I had to settle for a birdhouse in my one lone tree. Times had changed.
A Gift to Myself
Now The Fun Begins
I had dropped by the pet store just days before Christmas to find some treats for my puppies, and while talking with the shop owner I was introduced to TWEETY a beautiful LOVEBIRD.,
My first thought was a gift for my Grandkids, But their Mommy said NO!, I had to do something, the store owner had told me TWEETY had just recently lost his mate. Also she had to immediately find a home for TWEETY.
I had made a quick decision realizing there was no way my husband was going to buy me a bird for Christmas, I decided I needed one more gift. It took a little convincing to assure my husband it was a good decision I had made.
A NEW HOME FOR TWEETY
A Quick Adjustment

It did not take long for TWEETY to settle into his new home, Tweety also took a liking to the puppies right away. I soon noticed Tweety had a bit of an attitude to say the least, A real goof! But during our absenses from home walking the dogs, it is hard to bring Tweety in his bird cage. Tweety was alone and lonely.
ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER
A FRIEND FOR TWEETY
On overnight trips to the beach my husband draws the line, he will bring the puppies, but refuses to let me bring Tweety. I had to do something, I happened to look at the classifieds and came across an add for a Cockatiel who had to find a new home, The owners had no time for this beautiful bird. That was it, it solved my problem of leaving Tweety alone, and the Cockatiel has a new lifetime home.
Learning How To Entertain A Bird
Going that extra step!
I started to notice the birds getting more alert when I played music, I thought why not put on the Nature Channel? They love it!
I now daily place their cages on the coffee table and switch to the Nature channel. Hearing the other birds has helped Gilbert come out of his shell. My Lovebird and Cockatiel seem transformed, like they are in their Native home, chirping and singing with the Jungle birds. It is quite amusing, I have rediscovered the peace I felt with my outdoor feathered friends right in my home.
BIRDS
DISCOVERED BY ACCIDENT
PAPER
I had made sure the birds had toys I had purchased at the pet store, but noticed they very seldom made use of them. I was convinced that was normal, Birds must just fill there day hoping from perch to perch and occassionally eating. Boy was I in for a surprise.
If you want to entertain a bird for hours give him something to do. While cleaning cages I discovered when I placed a piece of paper in Tweety's cage, he started to chew a strip off, then another and then another. I figured ok he is enjoying this.
I would clean the mess a few days later and replace with new sheets of paper.
When I went near the cage Tweety seemed perturbed, so I would leave a little and add a little more paper. Then I noticed he was building a nest.
Tweety is now busy morning till night, with the occassional time out for music.
Gilbert still slowly adjusting to his new home was spending way more time than I care to mention plucking his feathers and watching Tweety, but is now starting to realize this paper is fun..,,,, and is going to the bottom of his cage and building too.
Maybe it is a natural instinct, and they are doing what is natural to them building their nests and singing with the Nature channel birds, but I now have two busy little birds.
I had never liked the thought of animals in captivity, but under the circumstances of how I discovered my birds needing a new home, I am so happy to have these beautiful pets.
Whistling Cockatiel
Gives me a little boost, lol
I also was surprised when passing by Gilbert he started Whistling, the whooo, whoooo, whistle, it can be quite a lift, I tell my husband he could learn a few things from Gilbert.
Realizing Gilbert had learned this whistle from his previous owners, I tried an experiment and whistled " JESUS LOVES ME"
to Gilbert a couple times, he picked it up right away. It is so cute listening to this Cockatiel singing JESUS LOVES ME.
