Fixing Yellow Light of Death On The PS3
My family is full of gamers. I have a Wii, my brother has an Xbox 360, and my son has the Playstation 3 console. I bought it at the pawn shop since it was cheap. The Wii was bought brand new and the 360 is being rented. The PS3 is the only console that wasn't bought new. Over the years, we have had minor problems with out games but not with our consoles.
That was until the Playstation 3 that my son used got the yellow light of death or ylod. We could deal with disc related errors but we had no idea how this light came about and how to fix it. We knew we couldn't take it back because the warranty had expired. So, I had to do some research.

Getting Rid of the Yellow Light of Death
I ended up doing some research and here are some of the findings I came across.
If the yellow light flashes on your PlayStation 3 console, what should you do? Here's how to fix ylod. There are some things you may try if you get the yellow light of death before you completely go to pieces.
1. Unplug all of the cords and reconnect them to the console. Disconnect the wall cord also. While you reconnect the cords, be certain they are all in their appropriate places and they are firmly connected. All connections must be very tightly connected.
2. Unplug the cords from the console over a period of a couple of hours. You can plug them back in after a while and see if the light still shows.
3. Be certain that your console is set up where there is abundant ventilation. Your console needs airflow to escape freely from the air vents. So don't put it in a place where the air can get obstructed. Just be mindful if something is interrupting the console's airflow.
4. Remove the hard drive and then reinsert it. After putting the hard drive back in, check for the yellow light. If you can still see it, ask someone you know if you can use their hard drive to see if it is working on your console. If it works, it's rather obvious the yellow light of death matter is more than likely related to the hard drive.
Try these basic steps to fix YLOD. These solutions may not be the answer. Sadly, there might be another problem or a more complicated problem turning on the yellow light of death which can't be corrected with these simple suggestions. When these fixes fail, you still have additional ways to fix it.
You could have someone who fixes consoles try to fix it or send it to Sony. Sending it to Sony will take some money and time if the warranty on the console isn't valid. It may be somewhat difficult to find a knowledgeable electronics technician who is familiar with issues involving PS3. They will also cost you a good amount of money.
A cheaper and time saving possibility is to correct the problem yourself by means of a professional PS3 guide for repairs.
