Nice presentation here! Blessed by a SquidAngel!
  • HumanFactorsAdvocate May 29, 2012 @ 5:23 pm | delete
Finding the audience and knowing what keywords to use is critical, but I don't seem to be able to conquer that barrier to get more followers. I could put my twitter account on LinkedIn, but I don't know how professional that is. I mostly tweet about things that I'd put on my blog, which is already on LinkedIn, so it seems redundant. But I believe I'm going to try it and I'll let you know if I get any more followers on Twitter/Blog this way.
  • keepingscore May 27, 2012 @ 10:52 am | delete
I don't understand Twitter, I fail to see how you can convey a message of substance or value in only 140 characters. As a pure social tool it makes sense but I'm not so sure it makes business sense. It just seems out of place. Am going to have to think about your information here and how I can use it. Thanks
  • OliviaDaughter May 23, 2012 @ 3:19 pm | delete
I began using an account that I rarely use. I am trying to gain a better understanding of it's use and purpose. thanks so very much for your lense.

Nice lens, but sorry I am not a twitter fan!
  • parmaggie May 12, 2012 @ 10:19 am | delete
Thanks for the great information. I'm new to all this stuff, twitter, squidoo, internet marketing, you name it, I'm new to it. I read a lot of lenses or blogs on how to do things because I have "no clue".
  • Mistel May 12, 2012 @ 5:07 am | delete
Thanks for the tips. Regading the last one. Will people not hate getting followed by a stranger out of the blue? In your last section when you say "make contact" do you mean tweet at them or following them?
  • pkmcr May 12, 2012 @ 5:21 am | delete
Thanks for taking the time to comment and ask a great question which I really appreciate. You will find that people will be flattered rather than annoyed at being following by someone who is genuinely interested in what they have to say. In terms of "make contact" I mean tweet at them :-) Perhaps something along the lines of "like your thoughts on ......" or "I have had a similar experience using ......" or whatever is appropriate for the individual.
  • Mistel May 12, 2012 @ 9:19 am | delete
That makes sense. Thanks pkmcr, this is very useful!

Follow people/topics you are interested it and engage and interact in everything that interests you. Also, follow people who have the same likes as you and there is a great chance, they will follow you back.
  • ukimpro Aug 27, 2011 @ 11:05 am | delete
I find it best to follow people who are on a similar scale to you - following someone with 60,000 followers and your just another number, follow someone with 6 followers and you become their friend.

  • 2muchtrash Feb 8, 2011 @ 1:06 am | delete
I have to admit to being one of the people that held off using Twitter for a long time, and I still only use Facebook for personal messages. I am finding that I get a bit of traffic through using hashtags in my tweets, and I like to retweet messages from people like Tony Robbins and anything else that I think my followers may find interesting. Great info in this lens. *SquidAngel Blessed*

Very informative. I've saved this lens in my favourites for future reference. I'm still learning. I've seen a lot of posts with words that are preceded by a # symbol. What exactly does that mean? @brianabbott
  • pkmcr Oct 22, 2010 @ 3:57 pm | delete
Thanks Brian! What you are referring to is what is known as a HashTag. A hashtag is a just way for people to search for tweets that have a common topic. So if there is a major event happening for example pretty soon there will be a hashtag that will be used - an example from the last week here in the UK was #CSR which meant that anyone could search Twitter using that hashtag and find all the posts about the CSR (Comprehensive Spending Review)

Will be using some of your tips, most twitters seem to be business oriented though!
  • Sep 19, 2010 @ 10:27 pm | delete
Good tips, Paul. I've seen people build followers fast with all kinds of scams - and then they get banned. I personally will not follow anyone who tweets about "Get 1, 000 followers a day!" I would also add to make sure your Twitter profile link is on all your other networks, blogs, and web site so people can easily click through and follow you.

Providing a service with your tweets, like helpful tips, will also build a following. A lot of people follow me for the Joy Breaks I post 4 times a day.

I agree with letting your list evolve naturally. You're more likely to have followers that are actually interested in what you have to say, rather than spammers.

Thanks so much for the information. I always thought that it is better to add as many followers as you can so that more people will be able to read my tweets. I guess it is better to have a smaller quantity of followers who would greatly appreciate my tweets. 5*

Hope you could visit my lenses and be a fan of my fb page. Thanks

Great lens. Twitter is like so many other applications. I know just enough to be dangerous. This is helpful. 5*

Even if a bunch of followers leave you and you go down below 2,000, it doesn't matter once you are at 2,000 for the first time. Getting to 2,000 took quite a while but growth happens pretty rapidly after that
  • rydigga Jul 2, 2009 @ 3:25 pm | delete

Great lens! You have awesome tips listed here. I found it from your link on Tagfoot. I just want to share this with you and others who visit this lens. I am having major problems with Twitter right now along with many others! My tweets are only showing up to people I follow--not in searches or trending topics.. Your tweets might NOT be showing up on twitter too (only to followers) & you don't even know it! Read more about it & how to determine if it is affecting you. Go to: Twitter update bug I hope this brings more awareness about the problem.
