A High Fiber Diet Can Help Prevent Some Diseases.

We all need more fiber in our diet. Fiber is conducive to a healthy colon and will promote healthy bowel movements. When you are regular will naturally have more energy and feel better. Having a healthy colon also can help reduce cholesterol levels. A high fiber diet can also improve blood sugar levels in diabetics. It also fills you up so you will not be a hungry. Adding more fiber to your diet will help you control your weight.

The Two Fibers

Insoluble fiber does not absorb or dissolve in water. It passes through our digestive system in close to its original form. Insoluble fiber offers many benefits to intestinal health, including a reduction in the risk and occurrence of colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, and constipation. The scientific names for insoluble fibers include cellulose, lignins, and also some other hemicelluloses. Most of insoluble fibers come from the bran layers of cereal grains.

Soluble fiber is "soluble" in water. When mixed with water it forms a gel-like substance and swells. Soluble fiber has many benefits, including moderating blood glucose levels and lowering cholesterol. The scientific names for soluble fibers include pectins, gums, mucilages, and some hemicelluloses. Good sources of soluble fiber include oats and oatmeal, legumes (peas, beans, lentils), barley, fruits and vegetables (especially oranges, apples and carrots).

I eat lots of fiber rich foods

poddys says:

I eat plenty of vegetables, and cereals/nuts a couple of times a week, so I usually don't suffer with any constipation problems etc. It's really important to eat a balanced diet.

Vanessa07 says:

I actually choose wheat bread over white, bran cereal, and Herbal Aloe, Active Fiber complex....so mix of supplements and natural foods. I try to get enough fiber in my diet since I'm constipated :/

I made a lens on fiber intake and basically constipation:

At one time I was doing a fiber supplement but they were pricey! Now, I work at naturally adding more fiber to my diet.

mulberry says:

I try to do it naturally, fruits, veggies, bran cereals, whole grains etc.

Stazjia says:

Fruit and vegetables, oats, legumes like kidney beans, lentils, etc. Start the day with porridge or muesli, make sure you have at least one, preferably two, portions of fruit or vegetables for lunch and the same for dinner. Snack on fruit not candy.

I prefer to take a supplement to get my fiber
