Get Backlinks for your Squidoo WebPages

Ok in the searches, no-one can guarentee anyone reaching number 1 ranking in the searches, however if you do as much as you can to maximise our pages, without over stepping the mark into "blackhat practices" like going into keyword stuffing etc. This is also against Squidoo ~Terms of Service) about roughly 80%+ of my traffic to my sites come via Google, so I must be doing something right.

If you think this is going to be complictated you are wrong, I hold the number 2 spot and number 3 spot on Google. And no 1 for images. Not bad for a Blonde Work at Home Mom. I am using a niche page as an example, it makes sales and money for me.

I have spent many nights asking in the forums, searching information on how I can get a high rank in the search engines and have my page found, which all seems to change daily.
However some things seem to be clear.

• Do your research on your competitors who ARE ranking highly
  
• Pick your domain/Url with your keywords
  
• Quality content within your site
  
• Good layout of your page
  
• Fresh and continually updated information
  
• Have links pointing (directing) visitors to your site

Check for the first few, but wait links pointing to my site...
Ahh....Backlinks, but what are they?

Search Engines use the number of backlinks to help to determine rankings, and popularity. This is only ONE of many reasons to determine ranking, but it is very important, as obviously the more sites that point back to your site shows its credibility and value for the visitor.

WARNING:
Do not use multiple link submission sites. You can, if found out to be using them be penalized...I will talk about this "spamdexing" later in this article.

Backlinks are links that point back to YOUR website/site, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
The more relevant the link to your site the better.
So short story if you are linking, make sure it is to a quality site and it is has relevant content. I like to think of it as leaving your footprint. (As long as it is not just for that reason or you could be accused of Spamming)

Google is getting tough. The easiest link to get is reciprocal, he links to you and you in turn link to him, but they are increasingly being devalued. I can submit my site to multiple url submission sites right NOW, but is it worth my effort and time? No as I can and will be penalised if the search engine finds out. I can even buy backlinks?

I do not do deep technical explanations, in fact the easier the better. I have read some "how-to" articles and got lost completely thinking I would NEVER understand it. But we are nearly there so hang on in.

Most of us who have started our online journey realise it is NOT a GET rich Quick Scheme, in fact it takes a lot of time and effort for you to begin building an online presence, however once you have it, there really is no stopping it, it just keeps growing. Even if I closed shop tomorrow my site would continue to have visitors, because of the time, effort work and patience of creating backlinks to my site.

If you search for "make money online" one of the biggest key phrases, the competition there is immense.
We also find out very quickly sites that most of the top pages are dominated by sites that promise you wealth in very little time for a one off payment, really are SCAM's, they prey on people like you and me who are not web savvy, but want to start making a living online, the fastest and cheapest way possible. how are they dominating the pages, Why are Google, Bing etc. letting them dominate, with actually nothing more that SPAM. They aren't that is why they do NOT define how SEO pagerank is awarded.

These guys are the master of master of "Black Hat" marketers. A name given to the villans of the web world, they shamelssly Spamdex, also known as search spam, search engine spam or web spam, they are always trying to find a way round the systems.

Black hat SEO tactics such as spamdexing, attempt to redirect search results to particular target pages in a fashion that is against the search engines' terms of service, whereas white hat methods are generally approved by the search engines. White hats tend to produce results that last a long time, whereas black hats anticipate that their sites may eventually be banned either temporarily or permanently once the search engines discover what they are doing.

How can we compete with these guys?

Search engines are developing all the time and look for sites that employ these techniques and are removing them from their indexes.
So you could be penalised for innocently using them, just because they told you it indexed your site faster! In a bid to "be found" because really we are an impatient species and demand everything instantly.


Google says in its response to Black hat tactics.
Google and most other search engines use links to determine reputation. A site's ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to it. Both the quantity and, more importantly, the quality of links count towards this rating.
However, some SEOs and webmasters engage in the practice of buying and selling links that pass PageRank, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. Buying or selling links that pass PageRank is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results.

Not all paid links violate our guidelines. Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results.
Google works hard to ensure that it fully discounts links intended to manipulate search engine results, such excessive link exchanges and purchased links that pass PageRank. Google webmaster resources

Some of the blackhat SEO tactics include: keyword stuffing, hidden text and links, doorway and cloaked pages, link farming and blog comment spam. Another thing the search engines are cracking down on, but thats for another time.

So it then comes back to the basics. Now your talking I like it nice and Basic.

While us "white hats" are planning for our future, and longevity of our site, these "black hats" are in it for the quick buck, and when the Search Engines catch on to them and ban them, they will have moved onto their next project Scam etc.
And your site/page will still be there as you have spent the time and effort linking (directing people) to your quality freshly updated website

When pages scream "Buy Links" its tempting, but does it need to be Black Hat, No

So short story if you are linking,
Make sure it is to a quality site and it is has relevant content.
There is much discussion on the internet about backlinking, many webmasters agreed on reciprical linking, this had a detrimental effect with many websites falling off the search radar, due to having irrelevant links, or linking to a site that is highlighted to the engines as being "bad", you may do this innocently and your site will be highlighted too.

Example:
I have a Blog about caring for horses, I have a link to my website from a supplier of horse essentials, after leaving a comment, this would be a QUALITY backlink,
This is going to send genuinely interested people who are looking for horse essentials to my site. And my content matches.

My niche blog is about earning money working from home, I am a member of many online communities dedicated to online marketing and ways in which to Save and Earn money UK

I am an active member in these communities and have a signature that links directly to my online Blog.
This way I know I am "leaving pointers back to my website" (quality backlinks), but also pre-qualified visitors visiting my site, who have similar interests, and will find my information useful.

So you want RELEVANT and QUALITY links.

• The theme of your website is the same as the linking one


• It links to the keyword (Key phrase) that you want to optimise

One of my lenses was a pretty little page, not much visitors but I liked it, I hadn't done ANY promotion of it, or so I thought... what I had been doing was writing articles, commenting in fashion forums, celebrity fashion disasters in magazine or TV forums, in different locations, I had set up my forum signature which had a link directing people to my lens about the Maxi Dress. (I enjoy taking part in the forums about fashion, so it is not boring, I am contributing and not just saying something to drop my link!)

My Forum Signature was simply - The Maxi Dress (This is called an Anchor Text - and is what my main keywords are of my lens) do not simply say Click here

I was visiting google webmasters page, trying to work out SEO, and saw that I could submit my URL to their search engine, so I submitted my lens about, The Maxi Dress bearing in mind we are told that the crawlers will "find our page."

I started to notice on my dashboard of Squidoo, ( go to Dashboard - stats - traffic to check out your own)
that I was not sitting on single digits any more I was on triple. I actually did not know how this happened, I hadn't used a method, a plan, a promotional site? I had just written about it, and talked about the subject.

With further investigations I realised that nearly 50% of my visits were from Google, my page was currently on Page2.
Now if we look at this page, it is pretty self explanitory, It is about the Maxi Dress, it is Summer Fashion, I have put in what to wear with it. now also I was seeing search "key phrases" that people had used to look for the answer to their Question,
"can I wear a maxi to a wedding"
In the introduction Paragraph I have "You can wear it to the beach, day wear, for a night out or even to a wedding"
I have answered their question, So the search engines have seen my page as a relevant page for peoples searches.
(that was a small introduction to long tail key phrases/words...now back our subject)
(Keep a close watch on this area of your dashboard, it helps you to work out what people are looking for and how you can improve your site to be search friendly, only put in the 'long tail key words/search terms' if it is completely relevant to your page)

Before we go any further press Ctrl D to save this page, (Shortcut to bookmark) as you will want to be able to return to it for the next stages.

If you have tried looking for your lens or site and cannot find it, in the search engines, it may be that it has just not ranked yet, or that far back it is lost.
So how do you get it to rank better? By building Quality links, that point back to your site (remembering this is just ONE of the ways to help Optimize your site) now there are link submission sites all over, but if a search engine works out you have used one of these to submit your site, your site can and will be penalized.

Do you know how to "find" your site to see if the search engines are indexing it? This is fun! You get to see how your site looks when someone searches for it!

I submitted my site to other leading, quality search engine sites, now as I said, they say, that the web crawlers should find you site, but I like to think of this as a push in the right direction. Do not do this more than once 1st publish, or your site will be penalized, as Google will just think you are trying to get the better of them! and they don't like that!
If you were to pay for quality SEO company to do this, we are now starting to see how it is so expensive. If there was an easy route these guys would be out of business.

***A quick tip - If a site is ranking high for your key words, visit them look and see what they are doing differently to you...investigate why they might be ranking high, is their introduction snappy, straight to the point. does yours make people want to click? Is it going to solve their question by reading it? Don't get annoyed at these guys ranking high, Learn from them, because the next lens you make you will remember all this, and put it into practice.
p.s. I have put in 3 links to my Maxi Dress site, are these relevant to this topic? are they quality links? No they are completely irrelevant, but I used this as an example because this lens was where I learned about Search Engine Optimization!

If you are posting an article or are in a forum and you want someone to "CLICK HERE", do not use these WORDS!
They will probably not relate to your website, instead incorporate a keyword into the text of the hyperlink I will talk about this in the next paragraph!

A link that incorporates a keyword into the text of the hyperlink is called a quality anchor text.

Even at the bottom of a page these can be found by the web page crawlers.
Keep building
The more content, the more linking, the more you will likely find you are being linked to, this is not a just leave it to get on with it project.

When you start to see links to your site, and visitors coming, the keywords they are using to find you, then this is where you can start to tweak your page.

With the Google update, gone are the days where you could submit hundreds of your articles introduction to many submission sites and build your backlinks, Google wants unique, useful content, so I personally prefer sites where I can submit different versions and articles.
