How to pay off debt

Taking on all of your creditors by yourself can be a daunting task.

There is an easy way to get rid of debt and it doesn't necessarily take forever and a day either. Credit card companies have always held the upper hand. In the first place when you charge and only pay the minimum balance you are most likely locked in for the next 40 years or so. Crazy. If you don't pay it can even affect your ability to get a job. So how do you pay your bills if you can't get a job?

Most of the credit card counseling companies are owned by the credit card company you owe! Whose side do you suppose they are on? It is their job to get as much money as possible for the creditor which is fine, but who is going to bat for you? It conjurs up a picture of Samson and Goliath.

There are also plenty of companies and scam artists ready to take your money so they can fix your credit. If you don't have to do anything but pay them a fee, you had better look twice. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Debt settlement is also an option but do be sure to ask if you are going to have to pay taxes on the amount forgiven. It is always in your best interest to ask plenty of questions. Is your negotiator some person sitting in a cube somewhere making $7 an hour? Do they have the skills necessary to get it taken care of? Are there any attorneys involved? You can be sure your credit card company has plenty of legal assistance.
