THis is just what I needed. I have been with SQuidoo for longer than I care to think but of my clutch of lenses only a couple make tier two and none in tier one. I have bookmarked this lens to read it carefully and fully. A quick skim seems to suggest it was written just for me and I do not want to waste what it holds. Thanks for this, I suddenly seem to feel so much happier.blessed

Thank you for sharing this information, this is a great lens you have here.

I started reading this stellar lens with high hopes, only to realise that my whole life is such a mess. Must get on with vacuuming ..... Thanks so much for trying to sort out life in such a witty and entertaining way.

Hi great tips just what I needed. Thanks for the info.
  • AlleyCatLane Feb 22, 2012 @ 11:02 pm | delete
Thanks for the advice. I often feel like I am in a rut, and go back and forth with myself over writing sales lenses. Some great advice here.
  • MysticTurtle Feb 23, 2012 @ 8:33 am | delete
It was hard for me to start doing sales lenses. Now, it's hard to NOT do them.
  • mamabush Feb 22, 2012 @ 9:43 pm | delete
This is wonderful! I hit a little hump a couple of months after starting, before I saw my first payout. I wish I hadn't taken a break. Now, I'm waiting patiently to see the results of my work and I know it's not a fast process! Can't wait to get a little "age" on my lenses! :)
  • MysticTurtle Feb 23, 2012 @ 8:32 am | delete
It took me awhile to learn the patience. It does pay off.
  • goldenrulecomics Feb 22, 2012 @ 9:23 pm | delete
    definitely good advice here...
  • PaperDollMaker Feb 22, 2012 @ 8:28 pm | delete
Good tips! I didn't start making decent money on my main account until well into my second year. It's important to write about what you enjoy and are passionate about, and then learn how to make that successful. Many random lenses I wrote went on to be some of my best performers once they matured and rose up in Google rankings.
  • MysticTurtle Feb 23, 2012 @ 8:32 am | delete
Yes, I would say it takes two years to start seeing decent results.
  • SayGuddaycom Jan 25, 2012 @ 8:27 pm | delete
    good advice

Monkey Mind, "shiny things on the internet" -- definite problems for me. And I do feel stuck in a rut. This lens was fun to read and offers some great advice.
  • Oct 12, 2011 @ 11:15 pm | delete
Thank you. Just what I needed to hear. Nice lens writing.
  • ForestBear Jul 26, 2011 @ 12:29 am | delete
Great lens, I really enjoyed it. Thank you for the encouragement.
  • GoodinDevelopments Dec 31, 2010 @ 3:38 pm | delete
Really enjoyed your lens, found it very motivating. Thank you!
  • sousababy Nov 28, 2010 @ 11:25 am | delete
Thank you, sometimes inspiration comes when you step back, look at the big picture and what others are doing. I find connecting to other Squids has helped me feel encouraged to keep going. Plus I try very hard to include the work of others into mine. Inclusion always makes things better for everybody. Great lens, thanks!

Thanks for the encouragement so true about the "Squid Hump" and fighting monkey mind.
  • drs2biz Jul 18, 2010 @ 7:49 am | delete
Great food for thought. Will probably need to return to this from time to time.
  • Wednesday_Elf Feb 7, 2010 @ 10:30 am | delete
Love the term 'SquidHump' as I've reached that point myself! Great pep talk, especially about not comparing yourself to others, setting and/or reviewing your own goals for yourself and your lenses, and 'focusing' your energies in the right direction. Thanks so much for giving me a new direction for my Squidoo journey. My lenses and I now have new goals.
  • MysticTurtle Feb 7, 2010 @ 6:43 pm | delete
I'm glad the lens helped. I, too, have switched gears a bit with a new focus.
  • K_Bellamy Dec 29, 2009 @ 7:44 pm | delete
A lot of good thoughts here that new Squidoo users would do well to read. Great lens.
  • MysticTurtle Dec 29, 2009 @ 9:24 pm | delete
Thank you very much. I'll have to keep referring back to it myself, as I still struggle.
  • nickupton Dec 25, 2009 @ 9:37 pm | delete
    Great lens, keep them coming.
  • lkoelbel Dec 25, 2009 @ 9:07 am | delete
Some great thoughts here, and with the coming New Year I intend to put a lot of your suggestions into action... I have been struggling with Squidoo and am determined to do better and focus on what matters. Too often I get distracted... No More! Great read!
  • MysticTurtle Dec 25, 2009 @ 10:01 pm | delete
I am so easily distracted. But a new year means new habits. Onward!
  • jptanabe Dec 20, 2009 @ 2:34 pm | delete
Wow this is such a great lens! Wonderful way of putting it all into a counseling session - love it! And yes, it's great to know others have similar challenges, but not to get depressed hearing only about a common lack of success!
  • MysticTurtle Dec 20, 2009 @ 8:27 pm | delete
The hardest thing for me is to not compare myself with others. I'm working real hard on just building lenses.
  • TheGreenerMe Dec 17, 2009 @ 11:56 am | delete
I agree, setting goals on Squidoo can help enormously! And a great deal of focus can't hurt either. The first few months on Squidoo were definitely a little taxing, but I get over that hump and have stuck to my focus. Great work here!
  • MysticTurtle Dec 18, 2009 @ 8:59 pm | delete
Goals help a lot. Most times I need very short term goals so I feel like I'm accomplishing something.
  • newbizmau Dec 16, 2009 @ 11:35 pm | delete
Setting goals is like attracting your wealth to you!
  • reasonablerobinson Dec 16, 2009 @ 10:24 am | delete
I'm 'at one' with squidiverse I simply enjoy lens creation and if karma allows a few cents to come my way then I allow it if it doesn't no matter I'm happy if I've helped someone on the way.
  • MysticTurtle Dec 16, 2009 @ 12:53 pm | delete
I started out that way, too. But now I don't have a job and need the income. I'd love it if I could earn money doing something I enjoy as much as Squidooing.
  • ChapelHillFiddler Dec 13, 2009 @ 8:24 am | delete
Adorable! I've made peace with my unsuccessful life by admitting that virtually nothing I care about is of any interest to anybody else, so if I find a fellow traveler here and there I'm ecstatic. I'm joining your fan club, you're terrific.
  • MysticTurtle Dec 13, 2009 @ 10:34 am | delete
Thank you! I think if you've made peace with your life, then you are successful! I love your music, by the way. I miss the radio station back home that plays folk and Celtic music on weekends.
  • WordCustard Dec 13, 2009 @ 4:57 am | delete
What an inspired and beautifully-written lens. I am sure I won't be the only one who felt that this was exactly what I was needing to hear. (I haven't been around as long as a year, but I think us newbies go through a similar slump a couple of months in when we've put in weeks of work for a few cents of reward).

Great work, I am sure I will come back to this one. Will also be setting myself a timer - and trying not to get 'distracted by shiny things on the Internet' :-) because it was *me* you were talking about there wasn't it? ;-)
  • MysticTurtle Dec 13, 2009 @ 8:31 am | delete
I always try to convince myself the shiny things are okay because I need to learn new things. I guess I should give them their own chunk of time and set the timer.
  • grannysage Dec 12, 2009 @ 11:22 pm | delete
Funny how we are going through the same thing at the same time. I like your approach here and the title! Lensrolling to How Granny Gets Her Groove Back. We can keep encouraging each other!
  • MysticTurtle Dec 13, 2009 @ 8:29 am | delete
Lensrolling out lenses together is a great idea. It's good to have connections with others who understand our struggles.
  • dancerene Dec 12, 2009 @ 9:07 am | delete
Good source of motivation. I've favorited it so that I can also come back when the Squidhump hits. Thanks :)
  • spirituality Dec 12, 2009 @ 3:44 am | delete
Wow. Great lens, blessed by a squidangel :)
  • MysticTurtle Dec 12, 2009 @ 8:25 am | delete
Yippee! Thank you! By the way, I just love the iceberg picture here. I had to use it in this lens. It's a great reminder that most of who we are is hidden...and it's that hidden part that can be most problematic.
  • oztoo Dec 12, 2009 @ 1:56 am | delete
Great lens. I'm sure we all have these periods and times. Good and practical advice for getting over the Squidhump. Thanks for sharing.
  • MysticTurtle Dec 12, 2009 @ 8:23 am | delete
Thank you. I just hope it helps others who are struggling.
  • stargazer00 Dec 12, 2009 @ 1:44 am | delete
I am glad to see that in working through the Squidhump you produced this great lens!
  • Ramkitten Dec 11, 2009 @ 8:33 pm | delete
Bravo, Mystic! This is so well written and well said. And your advice can be applied to so many things, not just Squidoo. Great job!
  • MysticTurtle Dec 12, 2009 @ 8:09 am | delete
Thank you. Monkey Mind is so strong; it persists even after all my successes. I know exactly where it came from and I try not to be angry about it. It's my responsibility to grow beyond it.
  • Greekgeek Dec 11, 2009 @ 8:21 pm | delete
An excellent lens -- I will be putting some of this wisdom into practice with my own "Monkey" -- my dissertation! All my classmates are brilliant and farther along on theirs, while I'm a dimbulb and can't seem to do as well as they do. Sound familiar? :)

I should read this over morning tea and cereal before starting my day's writing.
  • MysticTurtle Dec 12, 2009 @ 8:06 am | delete
Whenever I do something, I feel like I'm just "playing" at it and everyone else is an expert. I wonder if they all feel the same things? Good luck with the dissertation. Oh, and YOU are brilliant.
