How to get rid of a double chin

Ranked #11,843 in Fashion & Beauty, #194,555 overall

Do you want to get rid of the double chins?

There are three basic methods of getting rid of the double chins:
1. exercise
2. wraps
3. surgery

Since most double chins are caused by sagging skin and lax muscles, both the exercise and wraps can work together - or separately to firm and tighten the tissues, and give you that firmer chin. They take a little time - which of course depends on where you start and how consistent you are. Most people start seeing some results in a matter of a week or so - but don't get to where they want to be for about 2 months. Surgery is done for you - at one time - but it is considerably more expensive, and you are out of work for a while, then recovering for a while (and that is if all goes smoothly).

It should be mentioned that in some cases of extreme overweight, the loss of weight alone can reduce the volume of a double chin, however the extra skin and loss of muscle tone require exercise (and good circulation) to reduce and tighten the skin.

Which is right for you? Only you can decide the best route to get rid of your double chin. But a quick review of your options might give you some ideas.

Exercises for double chin

These can run the gamut from simple to wacky

There are many facial and neck exercises which can help strengthen the slacking muscles under the neck. The well designed exercise program will have a variety of motions involving the jaw, mouth and neck. These programs work the muscles sequentially. As with all exercises -the best results come from consistency. They also work best under healthy conditions - such as proper hydration and good nutrition.

There are also devices that allow you to exercise the muscles by using resistance (as in springs). These things do work and produce good results, when used as directed, but the results (as with all exercise) only last for a short time - you need to keep it up to keep those muscles from going slack again. But these are easy - don't take much time per day - and they do work!

One word of caution (from experience) - don't let your enthusiasm take you into doing too much too quickly. As with any exercise program, start slow and build up - and when in doubt - check with your doctor first. I started too quickly and was sore for a week!

Wraps and creams for double chins

Time tested technique

For centuries the wealthy and pampered have used wraps and creams to keep up their youthful jawline. You can still go to a spa and let them work on you, but to truly get rid of your double chin will require multiple treatments - consistently - day after day. No way I would afford that. However, I can afford the wonderful chin wrap systems sold today for home use. The new chin wraps are easy to handle and don't even require so much time. You don't sleep in them, but instead use them one or two times a day with a cream or gel specially designed to tighten the skin.

These 'at home' wraps are available at some specialty stores (at a premium) or from Amazon at a very reasonable rate - look down on the page to see.

Amazon is a reputable source for excellent products

Delivered to your door

Using the cream and wrap method - Velform is the leader in making this technology available to the home user at a reasonable price. Check these out. I like the 'systems' because they come with the wrap and the gel or cream they are designed to work best with.

Surgery for double chins

Expensive, and not without risks

This is a big step - since any surgery requires anesthesia, recovery time, potential unforeseen problems, etc. If you are contemplating surgery - ask for referrals, meet several other patients and learn of their experience with the chosen doctors, do your research on both the doctors and the facilities, and go in with your eyes open and realistic expectations. I know there are those who have had wonderful results with these procedures, but there are others that have not been so lucky. Discus every aspect of your search and decision with your primary physician to make sure you are healthy enough for this surgery, and making the choices that are best suited for your health.

It is easy to use someone 'local' or who is running a special. Well - that may not be the best person for your surgery. As with ALL surgeries - if it is not an emergency - take some time and do your homework. I know this sounds like I am repeating myself - well - I am. This is important. Any surgery has risks. From the preliminary interview you should be taking notes. If possible - bring a friend with you to see things through another set of eyes. The quality of the facility and actually meeting and speaking candidly with patients is critical. The surgeon should work with you to define the goals that are appropriate to your face, your skin, your lifestyle. The anesthesiologist should be experienced. The recovery plan should be realistic. This is a big deal and should not be taken lightly.

You know this is a right of passage for us older gals [who me?] in that we tend to have a little extra chin ... like wisdom. It's time to renew your drivers license and get a new picture. "Oh no, can't you just use that other picture?" Then when the lady hands you the new ID, hey! Where did that chin come from ... then we are here reading tips for getting rid of a double chin easily ... I want to see actual pictures, before and after.

I like that you have a personal warning for those who might choose to do the exercises to take it gradually. I think this is the first lens I've seen of dealing with the issue of a double chin.

The only thing that works is surgery. No regrets.
