From this side article in Men's Health Magazine, it should be clear to you that strength training is a key element in getting rid of stubborn fat.

Weight training is a key ingredient in any belly-off plan.

Case in point: Ball State University researchers put over weight men on a 1,500 calorie-a-day diet and divided them into three groups - one that didn't exercise, another that performed aerobic exercise 3 days a week, and a third that did aerobic exercise and weight training 3 days a week.

The results: Each group lost nearly the same amount of weight - about 21 pounds. But the lifters shed 5 pounds more fat than those who didn't pump iron. Why? Because their weight loss was almost pure fat, while the other two groups lost jut 15 pounds of lard and several pounds of lean body mass, a.k.a. muscle.
