How to get rid of viruses on my computer?

I see so many people out on the internet trying to figure out the answer to this question that I thought I would take the time to share some of my stories, and techniques for eradicating those spawn of satan once and for all! ; )

Computer viruses are getting worse and worse by the day. We have to take preventive measures to keep from getting viruses on our computers.

Come join me as I take a comedic approach to fighting the viruses I have on my computer. I'm in hopes that you will pick up some tricks, and techniques to keep you cruising the internet without a hitch.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy!

My Story

Don't Let This Happen To You!I'll tell you what happened to me, and why I am so adamant about helping others to put these pesky viruses out of commission!

I use a laptop to do all of my personal and business computing online. I had been using this particular laptop for almost 2 years when I was struck by something akin to a bolt of lightning that completely knocked my computer out! After a few hundred bucks and a month of having withdrawal without a computer, my techs were able to restore my computer to working order, but I had LOST all of my files, my baby pics, programs, documents for work, everything!

This is when I decided I was going to put on my cape and become the super-hero of helping others fix viruses before they had to endure that gutless lonely feeling I experienced of losing it all!

It's TOO Late!

The Viruses Have Won!

Viruses AttackingThis blog takes all of the steps in securing your computer from start to finish from the evil viruses lurking at every turn.

I highly recommend reading the entire thing, and implementing the strategies that I outline for you.

However, if you're already infected by the plague, here's the quickest way to get you fixed, and STAY THAT WAY!

(Note: Before you head over there, here's some advice. You will be presented with a web-site that is promoting starting a business in the Virus Removal world. Forget that, get the guide. It is the best I have seen! You are after the PROPER way to get clean and stay clean. If you decide later to use the info to help friends ('cause everyone needs computer help sometimes!), or do this for money, that's up to you. Just get the guide and get clean!

Last thing, print it off once you have it! That way if your computer gets infected to the point you can't get to it, you will still have a copy for the future!

A Link to The Guide!

OK, if it's not too pressing, read on and see all the steps you need to take. This blog will be a work in progress, so make sure to bookmark it as we go step by step through all of the preemptive measures you must take!

Imagine You're a Doctor

Is the Doctor <b>IN</b> or <b>OUT</b>?If you always wanted to be a doctor growing up, but you let your dream fall by the wayside or never completed the schooling, here's your chance! You see, maintaining your computer to avoid Chernobyl-like meltdowns starts with routine care. Just like the routine care we proactively get from our doctors before we have a problem!

Let's face it, if you're not willing to take the time to keep your PC safe before a virus knocks it up, then you should stop wasting your time reading any farther!

However, if you're ready to change your ways and get your PC purring like a kitten, stick with me, and let's learn how!

Oh, last thing before we move on.... If you just have 0 patience and you just want to solve your problems RIGHT now, here are the programs out there that I recommend.

Just click on the links to view.....

- My Favorite Step by Step Virus Removal Program
- More in Depth program even going over back-ups
- I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, give me something fool proof

You'll notice my favorite actually talks about starting a business to use the step by step techniques they give you. While I just recommend purchasing the program for the guide, remember you are NOT the only one on the planet with this problem. There are approximately 4 billion ( <-- exaggeration, it's only like 3 billion) other people with this same problem. And yes, you can make money doing it, I do!

Ok, see you in our FIRST lesson, chow for now!

Lesson 1 - Routine Maintanence

You know Who You Are!

I Love My ComputerThe first part of these may sound dry and boring, and actually, for the most part they are... unless of course you find sitting in the waiting room of a doctors office fun, because if that's true, your gonna love them!

HOWEVER, they are necessities in seeking a long term and affectionate relationship with your computer. So, if you want to keep your relationship hot, Let's get started!

(I'm doing my best to make this fun to read, so please bare with me as I know this is a boring (but important) topic!)

And were off like a heard of turtles......

Step 1 -

The first thing you must do to avoid asking "How to get rid of viruses on my computer" is practice good computing behavior!

* This means you cannot open emails with attachments from folks you don't know. (Even if it is a long lost friend in Africa ready to transfer millions of dollars straight into your bank account!)

* You may no longer visit random sites across the internet and download files randomly without performing virus scans on them first.

* You must have a solid anti-virus software running on your computer at ALL times. If you do not currently have anti-virus software on your computer, Click Here for the best FREE one I would recommend (incidentally, if you don't have one on your computer..STOP AND BOOKMARK THIS PAGE NOW! You will be spending every waking computer moment on this page for the rest of your life....oh, and DUH!)

* You must make absolute sure your anti-virus software is up to date, and fully functional at all times.

* You must make sure you are maintaining routine care of your computer such as downloading and installing your updates, installing patches for your browser or programs as they become available. Most of these things can be setup to be done automatically at set times and you need to do this!

* Routinely have your anti-virus software scan your computer for infected files. Again, this can be setup to run at a certain time every day that you have pre-determined.

These are a few beginning steps that you need to address first. Please Bookmark my page now so you can find me again as I'll be moving on to the next lesson but you have some work to do.

You may also feel free to leave positive or negative comments, give me a thumbs up, a thumbs down, a like, a dislike or whatever floats your boat. You won't hurt my feelings... heck, after my great computer crash of 2009, I am numb anyways.

*** Forget This, I'm Ready to Purchase the Guide! ***

Double Whammy!

Two Isn't Always Better Than One!

how to get rid of viruses off my computer - two is not better than one.I wanted to take a step back to the last module. In that module I recommended a free anti virus program to install and use. I forgot to mention something that as I read, felt was VERY important to note. DO NOT have more than one anti virus program installed. Specifically, I would be talking about programs like AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc....

If you have more than one of these programs installed and running, they will interfere with each other and can cause your computer to become unstable and even crash.

So, if you have more than one, un-install until you have the one program your happy with and that's it. ; )

A Tip You Should be Aware Of...

*** Did you know...... A proficiently trained Jedi master using "the force" as their anti-virus software and good computing habits has only a 1 in 10 shot at completing their internet mission unscathed. ***

Here's Proof!

The Great Wall of Fire

Having a Firewall is Paramount in Keeping the Bad Guys Out!

The Great Wall of FireDo you see that wall of fire in my picture? Ask yourself, would you go running through there under any circumstance? Well, I could think of very few reasons that I'm going shooting through there and not one is a pleasurable thought!

Another preemptive step we can take is to have a firewall. Now, it's important to understand there are two types of firewalls out there. One is a hardware firewall and the other is a software firewall. We are going to focus on the software firewall. Sounds scary eh? Well, it can be for beginners, but bare with me because I have faith in YOU! YOU can do this!

A software firewall takes a look at the incoming and outgoing traffic on your network. It is there predominately to stop bad guys dead in their tracks. Now, we could go into the intricacies of exactly what it is, and exactly how it works, but were gonna have to start trusting each other!

Due to that fact, I'm gonna recommend a bunch of FREE ones to ya and if you see one that looks shiny and screams your name, grab it!

Here is the list for you. Just choose any one as they all work extremely well.

Primedius Firewall Lite, Omniquad Personal Firewall, ZoneAlarm, Comodo Personal Firewall, GoldTach Firewall

Once you download one of these from the "safe links" : ) I have provided, you will need to install them. Each of them should have a setup wizard to guide you through the process. Set the parameters around your level of comfort-ability, but remember that you need to be firm, but fair in what you block!

I'll see you back for the next lesson after you have installed your brand new Wall of Fire!

Good Luck!

An Ace in the Hole!

Anti virus Rescue CD's

anit virus rescue cd's are an ace in the hole!If your at all like me, you just hop on the digital highway and shake it like a magic 8 ball to see where you end up. Heck, that's why they call it surfing right? You catch a wave of "clicks" hoping to catch that "10"of information your looking for! Well, don't be surprised if your "10" ends up being a tsunami!

I was really oblivious (I know now) to the consequences a virus could unleash on me. I mean literally! One minute I'm cruising along and the next I'm trying to figure out why my computer will do NOTHING! And by the way, when I say nothing, I mean nothing.

My particular virus managed to create a loop in the boot sequence. Every time I booted it, it would get right to the point where Windows was about to start, and it would reset and start all over again.

This bring me to an interesting point. Have you ever played Whack-a-mole? In the game, you have a BFH (Big Freaking Hammer) and when a mole comes popping up from his hole, your supposed to whack him on the head with it. The problem is, the mole comes up from his hole and then retracts back into it in like 1 millionth of a second. You try and try to whack em', but you just can't seem to hit the furry little thing.

I bring this up because one of the first things you want to do when struck by a virus is boot your computer into safe mode. Since my computer was looping through the boot sequence, when the screen with the "boot computer in safe mode" came up, I had that 1 millionth of a second to try and toggle down to that selection and press enter. From the words of my mentor (Larry the Cable Guy), I just couldn't get er' done!

Enough Rambling, it's time for school!

One of the things I highly recommend is to have an anti virus rescue CD handy. This little metallic circle of butt kicking capacity can be a real life saver in your moment of darkness. Even better, most are F-R-E-E! (My second favorite word next to compounding interest!)

Before you get to excited, there are a couple of things that you will need to have.

Your computer will need to have a CD burner (included in newer computers to help you make cd's of the music you've stolen from the internet...ummm....errr... I mean make rescue CD's and the like.)

You will also need some writable CD's to burn to.

Assuming you have these two requirements, you can head over to the following site (or pick your own) and make a CD for yourself.

Once you do, store it in A) a place you can find it, and B) A place you can find it. You will only need this once in a blue moon so it will be easy to misplace and lose track of. Safety Deposit box comes to mind.

*side note, sometimes you can find these that work on USB and that works too!

Ok, here is the link to one that I highly recommend. Choose this one, or go and find your own. Doesn't matter which, just have one!

Avira AntiVir Rescue System

Ok, so now you have downloaded and installed it. Simply place a writeable CD in the drive and double click the Avira rescuecd icon. If your drive is compatible, Avira will automatically create the rescue CD. If not, Avira will offer to save an .iso copy that you can burn using your favorite CD burning softare. Avira publishes a new rescuecd.exe for download several times per day. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System cannot only scan and remove malware from systems made unbootable by malware, it also provides a means for you to safely copy any data from the damaged drive.

I gotta run! My kid just put a WWF wrestling move on my cat. Ugh!

See you next time!

Browser Re-Directing

Hijacked!

Computer Virus - Browser RedirecI had an email from a user asking me to address browser redirects. This is actually a quite common problem users run into and I thought it would be a great idea to address it!

Note: I found it interesting that someone with this issue found me as there browser wouldn't have let them. Hmmmm... N E Ways...

Browser re-directing is where your browser has been hijacked by miniature terrorists that basically send it shooting all over the internet.

Usually you will type a destination in your browser and as it starts to head that way, it's re-routed to some other random destination.

While there are many ways to attack this, I'm going to assume Osama Ben Re-Directing already has control of your browser and you can't head over to other types of fixes that would require downloads.

And off we go!

(Sorry if this in lamens terms, but I'm here to help EVERYBODY! Don't want anyone to be left out! ; p )

Step 1 - click the START button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.

Step 2 - Hover your cursor over ALL PROGRAMS

Step 3 - On the new menu that comes out of that, Find the ACCESSORIES tab.

Step 4 - Move your cursor over that, and another menu magically pops out. Go to SYSTEM TOOLS and hover over that.

Step 5 - On the next new menu, find DISK CLEAN UP and CLICK on that one!

Now that your there, (Phew, lot of typing for that...heehee) it's possible a little box might pop up. This is OK! It's basically checking to see how much space you can free up, etc.... Just wait it out. It should only take a few minutes at the most.

Whether you got that or not, once it's finished, you should have a bigger box on your screen that reads Disc Cleanup for (C:) at the top.

In this box, you will see lots of choices with some of them already "tick-marked off". This is fine, do not do anything and go to the bottom of the box and hit the OK BUTTON

That's it! Oh, you want an explanation do you? Well, it's a gonna take a while so get comfie!

We deleted all the temporary files that are stored on our computer from the internet. These temporary files are where malware and spyware like to hang out.

*Note: If I were you, I would make a folder on your computer somewhere and label it "Virus Removal" or something like that. I would then copy this and paste it into word or notepad, save it and file it in that folder. That way if you get this one (it's pretty common), you will have the fix right at your finger tips. Usually in a browser re-direct scenario, you will not be able to come here (or anywhere) to find the information you need to fix it.

See you next time!

Stop Computer Viruses Once and For All!

Computer Virus Removal GuideI was just thinking about how many times in the last year I've had some type of virus, trojan, spyware, malware, or pop-ups. Although I never came to a solid number, it was more times than I care to admit. Talk about frustrating. UGH!

Because of this, I thought I would take some time to talk about the IT team I personally hired to take care of my PC's. Now, do I have seven members of the geek squad sitting around me at all times? NO! I simply purchased a $50.00 guide from Pappa PC that walks me through all of the steps I need to keep my computer purring like a kitten. How to Get Rid of Viruses on My Computer Now!

This guide is no joke. Heck, as you will see, it's promoted as a business anyone can start from home. The reason it's promoted that way is it's that good! It gives you the step-by-step way to properly fix a computer. You surely wouldn't start a business and put your reputation on the line with some half-baked plan would you? No! You absolutely wouldn't!

This is why I love this stuff! It's a guide that gives you opportunity to deploy professional and accepted methodologies for getting rid of viruses on your computer "the right way"!

I use these strategies to make money ALL of the time! Do you have to? NO! You need to start by having the guide and using it personally! After you see the value, you may want to pick up a few dollars. Completely up to you! I can tell you most people I know buy it for themselves, but it never fails someone comes knocking needing help because their computer blew up!

Talk about being a hero! Most people think if you can fix a computer from viruses and the such, you are some guru of vast proportion. While it's fun to be that guy, really your just an educated individual who took the time to make sure they were prepared.

This GUIDE is such a great investment. You buy it once and have it for good. You now have a solid plan in place when certain doom comes knocking on your door. That, my friends, is called being prepared and there is a reason that the Boy Scouts have that as a motto!

So, do yourself a favor and go get it! It will save you soooo much time and effort. I can't stand being caught with my pants down and nor should you!

Computer Virus Removal Guide - Get Yours Now!

Weapons of Mass Destruction

To The Viruses Of Course! ; )

How to get viruses off of my computer - CcleanerIs your computer so hammered with junk that it runs like molasses? Do the pop-ups remind you of a shooting gallery with things jumping up randomly and in full swing?

If you answered "yes" to either of these, or even if you didn't, take note of this little weapon of mass destruction that will keep you sailing in the breeze!

Before we get to it, I want you to think of some of the things you do every day. Taking a shower, going to work, brushing your teeth, and the list goes on and on. Fun stuff, eh? Well, if your not willing to add one more thing to your computing checklist every time you use it, you can stop reading now!

Still here? GREAT!

There is a program called CCleaner that I faithfully use at the beginning of EVERY computing session. This program is sooooo simple to install, and even simpler to use.

Assuming you have the program installed now, all you have to do is double click on the CCleaner icon. Once this bad-boy opens, don't worry about all of the stuff on the left side of the screen. Only focus on the 2 buttons on the bottom of the screen. One says analyze and the other says run cleaner.

Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you! It doesn't matter what you have open, but NO browsers should be open when doing this. Don't panic! It won't hurt anything if you do have a browser open, but you won't get a proper cleaning.

K, back to the analyze and run cleaner buttons at the bottom.

Click the analyze button first. You will see a bar come up and the program will analyze your computer. Once finished, it will return an approximate size of the files on your computer that need to be removed. It shows them to you if you care to look.

Next, just click run cleaner and it will remove all of the files it just showed you. That's it!

I will point out that I repeat this process over an over (will take 1 or 2 times) until the analyze function comes up with nothing left to remove.

Then simply close the program and start your session. By the way, it takes about 1 minute, at the most, to perform this whole process.

Get CCleaner - The Weapon of Mass Destruction!

Don't forget to use this before you start EVERY session!

Bye for now!

Byte Me!

That Means YOU Malware!

how to get rid of viruses off my computerI had someone shoot me an email about malware. Malware, by definition, is tiny little green men inside your computer that run around and step on programs making them "glich" out and perform operations you didn't ask them to do. Ok, not entirely, but it's a good visual illustration.

Malware is software that has been installed on your computer without your consent. The software has "bugs" (the little green men) that were intentionally sent by the maker of the software to get you.

Malware can be a virus, trojan, adware, spyware, and about a 100 other things. So, it takes many shapes and forms, and isn't necessarily a certain thing. It's also important to note that many times, malware rides in on a nice piece of software that you download from a trusted source.

Enough of what it is, how do we get rid of it?

Just like our anti-virus program, we need a malware program. They are two different things. Now, some anti virus will pick up on these little doozies, but not always.

On this particular set of circumstances, I am going to give you a FREE one, because free is good.

The program were gonna look at is a program called Malware Bytes. It's one nice piece of malware detection and removal software!

The benefits of this piece of software is that is can root out some little green guys that most programs don't.

The downside is, because it's free, you will be required to run the program manually, and at your discretion. Only the paid version has "real-time" monitoring to detect intruders as you go.

Malware Bytes Free Edition - Get it Now!

So, the next time your computer does something weird that you didn't ask it to do, fire up "Byte Me" and send that little green guy on his way!

How to Get Rid of Viruses On My Computer

Search and Destroy - Or Not?

how to get rid of viruses off my computer - Search and Destroy! As you know, not all things are equal! That's why I wanted to take a moment to make a NON recommendation to my readers. For years, one of the big players in the market has been Spybot - Search and Destroy.

Now, this little puppy has some advantages and can alert you to some of the pitfalls out there, BUT, it produces WAY to many false positives. Hey, guess what? Your Pregnant! Oops! Just Kidding! Not exactly the kind of scare you need huh?

Here's a couple things this program tends to do that just make it more trouble for me than it's worth.

It has a hard time getting along with the other kids! It's constantly in conflict with other programs and tends to be picked up by anti virus programs as a virus itself.

It likes to wave flags high saying you've got problems on your horizon, when in fact there is really nothing there.

Therefore, it's just not one I recommend. However, a lot of people use it and it's sure better than nothing. So, the choice is up to you, but this one just doesn't make my list!
