Smokey Eye Tutorial

A step by step tutorial on how to do the smokey eye makeup look.

type=textIt's All About The Application!

Step 1 - Getting your eyelids prepped

To get started use a lighter color of eyeshadow on your brow bone area, and also apply the lighter color on your lid. I like to use a shimmery white on my lid. You can alternatively use mineral makeup foundation (I like Bare Escentuals Well Rested) for this step because it gets your eyes ready for the eyeshadow that you are going to apply.

Step 2 - Do your liner

Line your eyes with dark eyeliner, I use black. Apply the liner on the top and bottom lash line of your eye, make sure you don't overdue it. Go easy. You can smudge this later to give it a more smokey look.

For smaller eyes you can line your eyes from middle of the eye to the outside corner of the eye. And for large eyes, line them from corner to corner.

You can soften the liner by using a smaller eye shadow brush and smudge the liner. To keep the liner on all day, and to get a really smokey look, apply a darker shadow using the smaller brush or sponge applicator, directly over the area that you just lined and smudge to your hearts content!

Tip: If you prefer to use liquid liner you can use that too. To apply liquid liner, place some dots on your lash line and then you can connect the dots to get a really nice looking straight line. You know, it's kind of like connect the dots when you were a kid!

Step 3 - The Shadow

Apply a darker color preferably dark brown or dark purple to the corner crease area, and then on the lid area and blend it into the rest of your eyelid be sure to bring it inward and blend it back and forth with your brush for that perfect blended look.

Go back and apply a lighter shadow with a larger eye shadow brush, just to blend it in a little more.

Step 4 - Now Apply Your Mascara!

If you haven't found your perfect mascara yet, you will love this lens on how to choose the best mascaras, called How to choose the right mascara. I made this lens to finally find the mascara that really works and these are the best mascaras available.

Step 5 - Cleaning up

To get rid of any leftover shadow that has fallen below the eye, use a fluffy brush and brush away the shadow that has landed there.

If you want a more dramatic look you can add more eye shadow and you can add false lashes or more Mascara!

Tip: If you want your eyes to look larger - Apply your eyeliner on the bottom below your bottom lashes so that it goes up at the corner when you make the line. This will give your eyes a larger and rounder appearance.
