How to Grow Grapes From Seeds - Will Seeds do The Trick?
So you want to know how to grow grapes from seeds huh? Well, not to spoil the party for you or anything but if you plan on planting a grape seed that grows to a vine that bears fruit then you might not be successful. You see, most grape vines these days comes from cuttings and not from seeds.
This is because the genetic material in the grape seeds will vary very much from seed to seed. It takes very much work for a grape vine to bear fruit. You have to prune the vine every year in a special way, give it a special fertilizer and protection against fungus and other diseases.
It's a lot of work, and I'm talking about several years of work. You might get a grape vine that doesn't have the characteristics of the grape you got the seeds from. For example if you use seeds from concord grapes, then the seeds might not have the true concord characteristics.
But don't let this scare you off completely. There is still a chance that the seed will develop to a perfect grape vine. Now, if you don't have access to grape vine cuttlings then this is the choice for you as well.. and here's the right way to do it.
How to Grow Grapes From Seeds - How to Do it
It can be a fun process to follow the grape vine from seed to a healthy vine, which hopefully bears fruit!
If you want to know how to grow grapes from seeds then there is one thing that is very important. I'm talking about the cold temperature treatment that every grape seed needs in order to sprout. This is fairly easy if you follow this process:
1. Extract the seeds from the grape berries.
2. Place them on a watered paper towel, or peat moss.
3. Place them inside your refrigerator for 2 - 3 months. The temperature should be 1 - 3 degrees celsius or 35 - 40 degrees fahrenheit. Be sure that the paper is moisty throughout the entire time.
After 2 - 3 months you should plant the seeds in seed pots with seed soil that is pretty poor on nutrients. Place the seed pots where it receives light, but not in direct sunlight. Keep the soil moist but not to wet. Also, the temperature must be around 20 degrees celsius during day (68 degrees fahrenheit), and not below 15 degrees during night.
After 7 - 14 days the seeds should have germinated. Once the seedlings have grown to about 5 cm, then it's time to replant it to a bigger pot with soil that has more nutrition.
You should have the seeds grow indoors for about 12 months before you begin planting them outside.
The planting of the vine is extremely important, and it has to be done correctly. Please visit www.MyGrapeGrowingGuide.com to know how to do it correctly.
