How to Have a Valentine's Day Slumber Party

Although Facebook has become a popular way to send out invitations to parties, there's something nice about going to the mailbox and discovering a party invitation. As it is a slumber party, be sure to remind guests to bring a pillow and blanket.

The next step is decorating. I would suggest some pretty heart shaped balloons for starters to bring a nice splash of color. You might consider adding some paper heart confetti to the table as well as a nice centerpiece. To give the area a warm feeling, place some nice candles around the room. String lights is another option.

Of course candy comes to mind when one thinks of Valentine's Day. However, it just isn't enough to serve party guests. You can keep it simple with the old standby favorite of pizza. Just be sure to have a variety of toppings as everyone has different food likes, including at least one vegetarian pizza.

Another idea is to throw a potluck and let everyone bring their favorite dish. If you wish to keep the food on the light side, then why not just serve a variety of tasty appetizers? You could bring out one or two at a time throughout the evening.

Spending Valentine's Day with friends is a great way to celebrate the holiday even if you don't have a date. After the food, games and general party fun, have everyone lay out their blankets and pillows for movie time. Romantic comedies would be a fun addition to any movies that are being watched. Although there are many newer great one out there, don't forget the classics. Here's a trailer for one of my favorites.

In case anyone is feeling left out because they're not getting a gift for Valentine's Day, think about having a gift exchange. Make sure the dollar amount to be spent can fit everyone's budget. At some point during the evening, assign everyone who wants to participate a number to place on their gift. Now, on small pieces of paper, write one number that matches the number on each gift. Put the numbers in a bag and let each guest pull one out. Once all are drawn, let everyone take the gift that matches their number.

When it's almost midnight, if guests are old enough, have a champagne toast to top off the night. Whether participants are in their teens or senior citizens, a Valentine's slumber party is a fun way to celebrate the holiday without having to worry about having a date.
