Help the Poor Children of Nepal

Children in Nepal are faced with unimaginable hardships including violence, hunger, loss of parents, natural disasters and abandonment by their families. Many children only have the option to live on the street, which can lead to drugs, sexual abuse, and indentured servitude. In the worst cases, children have been forced to become child soldiers.

Children in Nepal

The sad facts

Education and support for children in NepalThe plight of children in modern-day Nepal is extremely alarming. Starvation affects the a huge percentage of children, as half of the population is underweight. Many children find themselves living on the streets, with no parents to guide them or provide for them. The majority of these children end up getting involved with drugs and crime, or they suffer the unimaginable fate becoming child slaves and child soldiers. Nearly all are subjected to one form or another of sexual, physical or psychological abuse.

There are about 40,000 street children in Nepal, forced to live in terrible conditions. This is an astounding number. These children don't have adequate food or clothing, and they are forced to suffer all sorts of weather conditions and the elements without a roof over their head. A great many die from starvation or suffer abuse from police when they are caught trying to steal food to survive. What is worse, these children are prime targets for people looking to exploit them as indentured servants or child soldiers. It is not uncommon for children to be forced into the worst forms of servitude and labor. The treatment of these helpless children is absolutely deplorable. Their lives are ruined by those looking to exploit and take advantage of them.

During the time of war, many of these street children were forced to become child soldiers. These children now suffer from extreme mental illnesses such as post traumatic stress disorder, and they roam the streets forming gangs and committing crimes. It is the only life they know.

Unfortunately, even children who aren't living on the streets are still plagued by decrepit conditions. Poverty affects a great many Nepalese families. Many children are denied the opportunity for education and instead are forced to go to work, oftentimes with little or no pay. These children and their families live in squalid conditions and their quality of life is very low. Some children are even forced to beg just so they and their families have something to eat.

TsubomiGakko Pokhara is a non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of Nepali children.
The organization currently supports 50 children who otherwise would still be living on the streets. With your help they can expand their mission to save even more of Nepal's children who find themselves in dire and threatening situations. Donations will be used to pay for food, clothing, healthcare, and school supplies. By donating to their worthwhile mission, you are helping improve and save the lives of the most helpless members of our society.
