Hosting a Beading Party

Do you love to make beaded jewelry? Have you ever wanted to learn how to make beaded jewelry? Would you like to have a girls night making beaded jewelry?

Then how about hosting a beaded jewelry party.

Hosting and conducting beading parties has been a specialty of mine for over 8 years now. I have had as many as 1 to 18 people at a time.

If you would like host your own beading party then I'm here to help you put one together. I will be covering some things to consider when planning your party; project, tools, food, instructor or no.

Come along and join in the fun. Be sure to add your own list.

Every Party Needs Guest

It's not a party with the gang

type=textA beading party needs guest just like any other party.

Who will you invite; friends, family, classmates?

Well of course! Invite whoever you want to.

Do all your guest have to be crafters?

Absolutely not. Beaded jewelry is not hard for the beginner as long as it's a beginner's project. But remember all guest don't have to participate in the project to be there, they can just gather for fellowship.

Don't set limits to your guest list, have fun with it. After all it's a P-A-R-T-Y!

Plan Your Beading Party

it moves smoother with an agenda

type=textHosting a beading party will require some pre-planning.

Here is a list of a few things to consider for your beading party.

Are you going to plan the project?
Are you providing tools?
Are you providing supplies for the project?
Do you want to hire a beading instructor?
Are you feeding your guest?

Let's explore some of these questions.

Planning Your Beading Project

take some of the guess out of your guest

type=textWhat type of beading party are you wanting to host?

Do you want to share a new technique, new materials, new design, new theme or is this just a DIY?

This may sound like a lot to think about, but with a little pre-planning of what you want to accomplish with your guest will eliminate confusion of what to do once your guest arrive.

If this seems a bit overwhelming then you may want to consider hiring a beading instructor to do the work for you and you can focus on your guest.

Beading Tools Required?

Use the right tool for the right job

type=textUnless you host a beading party where everyone brings their own supplies you may want to consider providing beading tools for your guest.

Depending on the number of guest I suggest 2-3 sets of tools for every 5 guest invited.

Here is a list of a few tools you may want to have on hand:

Chain Nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Round Nose Pliers
Multi Task Pliers
Bead Mats

Beading Supplies?

beads make the project

type=textAre you providing the beading supplies for the project?

If so then do you offer supplies as a beading kit or will you offer supplies in open tray?

Beading Kits are easy and convenient. You won't need to worry about any left over miscellaneous beads, they can go home with your guest.

Open tray of supplies can mean open fun and lots of creativity. Each person has the free rein to create what's in their head. How inspiring.

Hiring a Beading Instructor

Where to find one and how much will it cost?

type=textIf all of this planning seems overwhelming then there is always the option of hiring a beading instructor.

The biggest advantage to this is that they will do all the planning for you in addition to providing supplies and tools to complete the project.

So how do you find a beading instructor?

First option is look to your local hobby and craft stores, check with friends of friends. If you strike out then hang out in the beading department of the craft store and more than likely one of the beading shoppers may be able to help out. Beading has become such an up and coming hobby that there is a good chance one of these avenues will produce an instructor.

What you should expect to pay an instructor will depend on the individual instructor and project involved. But generally a per guest fee will be asked. Consider all options if you are going this route of hiring an instructor.

Feeding Your Guest

What's a party without goodies?

type=textFood is always a 'welcome to my home' sign for any party, beading parties shouldn't be any different.

You may want to consider either snacking before beginning the project or wait until after the project is complete.

But I would not suggest having food at the beading table. If a drink gets knocked over and spilled on all the supplies that would decrease the fun for everyone not to mention the mess to clean up.

If this is a children's party then I would encourage you to keep food and project separate. If you would like to allow for drinks during the beading time then use lidded cups.

After all this is a time for fun and not rules.

I have done a little beading, but my only experience with a "beading" party was when my daughter had a birthday party and we bought a party kit containing those heat fusing beads. Everyone had so much fun.
