Writing A Blog That Gets Quality Traffic

How do you write a blog that gets traffic? How do you increase quality traffic to come to your blog?

These are very common questions that a lot of beginners are probably asking themselves, when they first start out writing online. I have been blogging for quite some time now and can tell you that there are many ways to get traffic. But is it really just a lot of traffic that you need, or is it the quality of the traffic that is important?

Quantity or Quality?

Writing a blog that gets plenty of traffic is like starting a business and opening up a store front. If you don't market your products (articles) or your business (blog), you won't get any customers (traffic).

First, you have to sell something that your customers really want and need, in order to provide them with value. If you provide your readers with the information that they are looking for, and it is written well, in your own unique way, they will come back for more.

To have a thriving business, or blog that makes any money, you need plenty of repeat customers or visitors that are interested in your product, in order to succeed in making any money at it.

So, what is required to make a blog popular, helpful, informative, spectacular, long lasting and important enough to the reader, that it will have them return again and again, with much anticipation?

There are many things that you can do to improve the traffic of your blog. Here are a few of the things I have noticed about what popular blogs seem to have, that other blogs may be lacking in.

Subject Choice

The topic that you choose to write your blog about should be about something beneficial and helpful to others but also something you enjoy writing about.

Do you give your readers unique quality content, checking the latest trends and giving the best information you can, on your topic? If you write about something that you know and have plenty of experience and knowledge about, you will write it better. If it is something that you are interested in, passionate about and like talking about, it will come across from your heart to your readers. This, in turn, adds value to your content that peaks the readers interest to read your articles through.

Promoting and Marketing Your Blog

There are many ways that you can market and promote your blog. Below I have listed just a few of these areas that are popular for boosting and increasing your traffic.

Targeted Traffic

If you are planning on making money blogging or thinking of starting your own blog, the success or failure depends on the amount and quality of traffic that you get. It also depends on the visitors that actually are interested in any of the products that you advertise on your blog. It's not enough to just be able to get traffic to your blog. Without targeted traffic that is interested in your product, you won't be able to generate any money.

If you are writing a blog about "Pets" for example, have pet products on your site and want to make money on them, you want to attract visitors who are interested in "Pets" and their products. Properly promoting your blog site to the right people, is the difference between random traffic and good quality targeted traffic.

Social Bookmarking

There are many networking venues these days, from forums to social sites and they are good sources to promote your blog. Going on specific forums that are about your topic, could help to target your audience and get you more traffic.

Backlinking and Linking

Guest posting or writing on a few other similar reputable sites about your blog topic and backlinking back to your site, as well as, linking to your other posts on your own site, may bring more traffic to your blog.

Commenting

Commenting on other blogs can be another form of networking. If you leave good comments on other blogs, that may in turn, get them to reciprocate and come to your blog too.

Directories

Submitting your blog to open directories, such as Dmoz and others, as well as pinging your blog, every time you update it or add new content only. Research any sites, before you submit, to make sure they are appropriate and a good fit for you.

A word of caution:
Do your research on which pinging site you want to use, but use one only, so that you are not considered spamming.

Here are some directories and pinging services for you to check out -

check them beforehand, to see if they are suitable for you, but remember to use only one....

PingMyBlog.com is a service which does the hard work for you. We notify all the major blog directories in one go so that everyone knows about your latest blogs. It saves you the time of having to do each one manually! This is a great way to improve the popularity of your blog

Titles and Content

Having great titles and content that are properly optimized for your blog's topics, that are interesting to read and based on what people are searching for.

Using shorter paragraphs, for ease of reading, as well as using your own quality photos about your subject topic in the content or on each post, may attract more followers for your site.

Good quality content is important to the reader but so is the look of your blog. If it is too cluttered with unnecessary content, or too many ads that the messages get lost, your readers will leave.

Blog Rolls

Having a blog roll on your site with "blogs of interest" to you or that you recommend, is a good way to cross promote your site.

Online Sites and Offline Promotion

Advertising your blog on free reputable online sites that allow you to promote your blog there, can be a way to boost more readership your way.

Another way to get more visitors to your site is to create business cards, with your blog URL and a brief description of your products and/or service on them. You can either hand them out or post them on community bulletin boards.

Post Frequently

Posting frequently and updating your blog on a regular basis, with fresh quality content, will have more people returning to read.

Personality

Before you can sell any product, whether it is online or offline, you have to be able to make the biggest sale of all, "YOURSELF". Many people may think that this isn't important.

Why do you think that is? "Why does it matter?", you may say.

Do you respond to comments or questions, in a helpful, friendly manner? Are you courteous and professional, even when someone else isn't?

They say that you don't always have a second chance to make a good first impression and impressions can make or break a sale, most of the time.

How you respond to others online is even more important because all they see is the words you choose. How you come across to others, how you speak, how you communicate your messages, shows in your writing. Unfortunately, sometimes messages don't come across well and are not understood properly. Making a good impression to others and having the right attitude, goes a long way in being able to attract traffic to your blog.

Getting traffic is like making a sale, if you provide a good experience, when they come to your site, then they will return, again and again.

These are traits of someone who is providing not only "customer service" online, but also someone who is liked, and if you are liked, you'll make the sale.

Pinging Tip

Don't forget to ping only "fresh new content" and use only one pinging site.
