As with any athletic activity, when working on improving your vertical jumping skills, it is very important to have a rigorous and well-thought out training program. A vertical jump training program should include both strength training, as well as jumping ability training.
Strength training
Any vertical jump program must have a strength training component
A vertical jump strength training program should focus on improving your core muscles, along with a large focus on improving your muscle speed (by working on your fast twitch muscle fibers). In addition, the strength training program should also focus on improving your leg muscles, which will allow you to jump higher.

Jumping ability training
The most important part of any vertical jump program
No higher jumping program is complete without an in-depth and complete jumping ability training program (also called plyometric training).Jumping ability training focuses on teaching you the necessary vertical jumping skills to be able to jump higher, and dunk those basketballs. The requirements for any jumping ability training program are that:
- Should be worked out by a professional jumping coach, because vertical jumping requires different exercises and skills than other sports, it is much better to have a jumping program that has been worked out by a professional
- Should teach you the correct jumping form, because most people, even basketball players, have never learned how exactly to use their optimally bodies to jump
Just by learning the correct jumping forms, and the necessary jumping skills, you can improve your jumping height dramatically.

- great lens on vertical jumps, Like the video too. I'm lucky not to fall over my own two feet on the court never mind trying a 66inch jump :)

- That depends on your age. I've heard of people in their 40s that started doing vertical jump training and saw results. It can actually be a very good fitness program for any age.

- great info for any 16 year old... but at my age I'd be just happy to walk on the court... forget about Jumpin.. lol
