The biggest problem with this method is that when the plants are cut or broken up, they fragment. These fragments will settle again in the bottom of the lake and grow back even more invasively often times within the matter of a couple of months.

Basically, grass carp are added to lakes and they eat the weeds. The fish that are added are sterile so they should not reproduce. On certain occasions, the fish work well, especially for very large applications, but in others they either fail to eat enough of the weeds, or they eat too much of the weeds and other underwater plants which is actually bad for the lake.

The LakeMat

Safe and Effective Lake Weed Control
