No, it's not rock-n-roll, it's a bit of a twist-n-sway actually, but once you get the hang of it, it's rock-n-roll all the way.

"Another way to highlight the best and brightest lenses is to feature them -- and link to them -- in your own lenses. Particularly if you stumble across lenses that cover topics similar to the subjects of your lenses, consider adding them to the lensroll of a specific lens. And when you do, contact the lensmaster to let them know you've done so -- perhaps they'll add your lens to their lensroll!" .. [SquidU : Learning Library : Express Your Appreciation]

What is it

Lensrolling is a way to create and share your own network of lenses which you liked or have a special preference to. You can set it up to list your friends' lenses, collate relevant lenses on your topic or a topic of your choice, or even create a private network of your own lenses!

It is a good way to recognize good and relevance lenses of your peers and in return be recognized by them!

The Default Lensroll

If you are on the present template, and you have not added any lens to your lensroll, Squdioo will, by default, generate it's own set of 5 (five) lenses which will be added to the 'You might also like...' listing.

This default selection is from the same subject category your lens is in, and is also reflective of keywords and tags you used to built up your lens.

The UnMaxed Version

For the 'UnMaxed' version (when you set your lens to 'Unmax') what you will see is just a list of links set to the title 'Lensroll.'

Both are essentially the same list, but given a different graphic display treatment depending on which version you set your lenses to.

You can visit MeLewisSmile's How To UnMax a Lens to see how an um-maxed lens looks like!

Come again?

Lensrolling is basically adding, to one of your lenses, a link to another lens.

To make this happen you must of course have identified the two appropriate lenses.

One of the lenses, the 'from' lens, is essentially yours, while the other, the 'linked' lens, can be any lens in the whole depository of Squidoo lenses, including yours, if you so wishes.

Note: Please note that the contents of this lens has yet to be updated to the latest wizardry version of Squidoo lensroll. Soon I hope! Thanks.

Let's Roll

  • Make sure you are 'Logged-In' to your Squidoo account
  • Visit the 'linked' lens - the lens you want to add to one of your lenses lensroll
  • Click on the 'Lensroll' link of that lens - this action will bring you back to your user account, this time displaying the 'Add to lensroll' wizard
  • Choose from the drop-down box the (your) lens you want to add the 'linked' lens from - Click the 'Continue' button to proceed
  • One completed a message box will appear on you lens stating that the process of adding the lensroll to your lens has been completed. Done!

Requesting the Reciprocal

One way of getting an equal 'exposure' to your lens is to put in a request to the other lensmaster for a 'reciprocal link' i.e. a link back to your lens from his.

By doing this you will both enjoy the benefit of added exposure of being 'referred to' when indexed by search engines.

Doing the Daisy Chain

Daisy chaining is of course another method of extending the network of 'lensrolled' lens.

Instead of requesting a link back to your starting lens, you can request the other lensmaster to link to another one of your lenses and in return, you do the same again to another of his lenses.

Continue this sequence then with another (third) lenmaster and soon enogh you will end up with a whole 'daisy field' of chained lens.

Editing

Lensrolls are added to your lens sequentially by the system and there is not much that you can do in terms of rearranging the input sequence.

You can, however, redo the whole exercise by editing (deleting) the sequence and by re-building it.

Once lensrolls are added to your lens it will appear under the menu title 'My Lenrsoll' when yo go into the lens edit mode in your workshop.

Delete the input by picking on the x-image at the end of each entry.
