About Batman Costumes

Batman Costumes are always popular at Halloween, children's parties and comic book conventions. Regardless of where you are heading, you'll look like the dashing half of the Dynamic Duo when you suit up in a batman costume. Whether you prefer the old-school Batman from the golden age of comics, the boom-pow-kazaam Batman from retro television or the enigmatic character created by the Dark Knight movie, it is fun to dress up as the Caped Crusader.

Batman is the alter-ego of the fictional playboy, industrialist and philanthropist named Bruce Wayne. Seeking revenge to the murder of his parents, Wayne employs his physical, intellectual and financial prowess (with the help of a Bat Suit) to help restore order to Gotham City. Depending on the genre of Batman fiction you are enjoying, the Batman costume styles and supporting cast of characters may change. His faithful sidekick, the Boy Wonder, is typically at his side and a Robin costume would make a great choice for a friend. Or, if your friend is a bit more maniacal, he's sure to be better suited to a Joker costume .

How To Make Dark Knight Batman Costume

Step 1: Create the foundation for your Dark Knight Costume using black pants, trousers or tights (if you dare) and a long-sleeved black shirt or even tight athletic performance shirt. Use a gold paint pen meant for fabric to add logo detailing to the chest.

Step 2: Batman costumes need an impressive cape to flutter behind them on the go. Use approximately 2 yards of black fabric (or even trash bags) to create your cape. Fold down the top raw edge about 1-inch and fasten with a running stitch or glue. Gather up the cape with a length of black cording or ribbon shimmied through the casing; use a safety pin attached to the cord to help pull it through. Drape it over your shoulders and gather up around your neck with cording tied to keep in place.

Step 3: Fasten a black utility belt (found at an army surplus store) around your midsection; attach any Batman accessories you may have such as the bat-a-rang or a grappling hook.

Step 4: Black boots and gauntlet-style gloves are also needed for a Batman costume. Black rubber galoshes or work boots will work just fine as well latex dishwashing gloves! Attach triangle-shaped spikes onto the forearms of your gloves with a glue gun.

Step 5: Finally, slip on the enigmatic Batman Dark Knight mask to hide your true identity. Or, you can wear a simple black plastic "eye mask".
