'What is a platform bed?', you ask? The simplest answer is that a platform bed is a bed that is basically a platform for a mattress. They're typically built of a solid wood base (the 'platform' part), low to the ground, and often with storage underneath.
They've been gaining popularity in recent years because they're both cost and space effective, and the design is so simple that it'll suit any existing décor, and they're easy to get in and around to change the bed sheets without looking like a cheap mattress-and-base (which are rarely cheap at all!)

- I love beds that are low to the ground. Platform beds kinda have the Japanese feel to them. I don't know if I have the skills to build it, but I sure would love to buy one.

- Platform beds make sense. My Dad did one years ago in one of the bedrooms. A platform beds are stable, easy to make, last forever and can be adapted to provide storage options as well.
