How to make a stuffed Christmas Tree Advent Calendar

To make the count down to Christmas special , I decided to make a stuffed Christmas Tree Advent Calendar

A fun activity for the entire family with much interaction . Christmas does not always have to be about expensive gifts but we can bring the magic back by making inexpensive personalized gifts that can be used year after year . I've chosen 24 match boxes filled with something of interest ; could be an instruction for the day , a little charm or a sweet . Each day your child can choose the correctly numbered box to open and follow the instruction or enjoy the daily treat .

For those who choose not to sew , just use poster paper and follow the same instructions . Designed to hang on wall or door .
Let's get back to the basics and follow the rest of the instructions below .

Happy Crafting and Happy Holidays !

Materials used :

Green fabric ( for the tree) . Aternatively green and white card
24 matchboxes
A piece of red and yellow felt
Gold gift ribbon cut int 24 x 50cm lengths
Cotton wool / ladies stockings
Used wrapping paper or foil
Gold marker pen
Scissors
Adhesive / Fabric Glue

How to make :

- You can make your own pattern by cutting out the shape of a Christmas tree on poster paper .

- Place the fabric on the pattern and cut the outline of the Christmas tree.

- For the next step , we need an adult to do the stitching . Leave an opening for the stuffing and turn inside out .

- I used ladies stockings for the stuffing - u could use anything suitable .

- Before closing up the top , insert a hanger so that it could be mounted on a wall or door .

- My tree is now ready for decoration .

- Now I can start decorating the matchboxes with Christmas wrap or foil and round off with ribbon on top .Curl the ribbon by running it between your thumbnail and finger There should be 24 matchboxes and number each from 1-24 with the gold marker .Don't forget to fill the boxes with a little something as described above .

- To secure the matchboxes to the fabric use fabric glue or an adhesive ; arrange randomly on the Christmas tree.If paper was used instead , sticky tape or glue will do

- Use the red felt to cover the pot and place at the bottom of the tree , right at the centre .

- Cut yellow circular shapes or sequin stars and place in between the matchboxes . Place a big yellow star right at the top of the tree.

I'm done !. My Christmas Tree Advent Calendar is now ready for display .Make one for the family or a friend as a gift .

We've had an Advent calendar for 14 years, and my teenage daughter still can't wait to go to it each morning to pull out the next surprise to pin to the tree.
