Step 1 ~ How to Make Candles
Get your double boiler turned on and if you are using a large block of candle wax set the wax on top of the boiler. This will allow it to soften and be easier to cut.Lay out newspaper over your work space. This is an important step, as candle wax is very hard to clean up.
Cut off a chunk of candle wax and put it in the double boilder to melt.
It will take a little less than 1/2 a pound to make a couple candles.
How to Make Candles ~ Step 2 ~
Preparing your candle mold
You want to prepare your mold while the wax is melting. There are tons of things you can use for molds. If you are planning on making a lot of candles it's best to invest in a sturdy candle mold you'll be able to use over and over.
If you are using glass or metal you can now take some olive oil and put it on a paper towel and rub the inside of your mold.
This will allow your candle to come out of the mold much easier.

How to Make Candles ~ Step 3
Adding the color and scent to candles
While your wax is melting and your molds are prepared you want to add the color and scent to your candle. (if you want them)This is where you can add a crayon to the wax. IF you want a darker color you will add more crayon, for a lighter color add a little less. One whole crayon should give you a good solid color for 1/2lb of wax.
You also want to add a couple drops of your candle scent ~ or a piece of color block if you are using solid scent.
Be cautious when using scent ~ a little goes a long way. It's much better to have a mild scent than to have a candle people can't be in the same room with.
How to Make Candles ~ Step 4
Preparing the wick
While your wax continues to melt and combine with your color and scent you want to prepare your wick so it will stand up straight. You can do this with any type of wick and it will make the wick stronger and stand up straight in the candle.
Just dip your wick in the melting wax. Pull it straight while the wax is drying. Once it hardens slightly you can put the wick in the refrigerator to harden until you are ready to use it.

How to Make Candles ~ Step 5
Pouring the Wax
Very carefully pour the hot wax into your mold directly from the double boiler.Let the wax harden a little bit, in fact, putting it in the refrigerator can speed up this process.
You want to have a 1/4 of hardened wax along the top of the candle.
How to Make Candles ~ Step 6
Inserting the Wick
Now that you have a thin covering of hardened wax you are going to poke a small hole in the middle. In that hole you are going to insert your hardened wick.
Push it down so that it goes all the way down to the bottom of the candle.
Attach the wick that is above the candle to a pencil or spoon handle and rest the handle on the mold.
Allow the candle to set up in the mold.

How to Make Candles ~ Step 7
Removing the Mold
Now that your candle is set up you want to remove the mold.If you used a solid mold you should be able to slide the candle out.
If you used a make shift mold you can tear the mold off the candle.
Great job!
You've made your first candle.
