Chocolate Strawberries Are the Perfect Special Occasion Treat

I love making chocolate strawberries, because they look like they came from a fancy bakery, but they're actually so simple to make.

I like to use a chocolate melting pot to make chocolate strawberries. It melts the chocolate so that it's satiny smooth without the need for a double boiler.

You can really use any type of chocolate to make chocolate covered strawberries. In this recipe, I'm using white chocolate, but semisweet or dark chocolate works exactly the same way. However, if you're using a dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage (say 60% or more), you may want to add a tablespoon of shortening or butter to help it melt more easily.

This chocolate melter makes it easy to make chocolate strawberries with any type of chocolate you like, because it melts the chocolate at a low temperature so that it stays smooth and doesn't seize up.

The chocolate melter also keeps the chocolate at a constant warm temperature while you're dipping the chocolate strawberries.

There's no need for a double boiler when you use a chocolate melter. All you need is an outlet to plug it in!

Making Chocolate Strawberries Step 1

Prepare the Strawberries and the Toppings

Wash and Dry the Strawberries

Wash the strawberries, then dry them with a paper towel. If the strawberries are wet, it's harder for the chocolate to adhere to them.

Next, line a cookie sheet with waxed paper or parchment paper.

If you're using toppings, such as sprinkles, coconut, crushed nuts or mini chocolate chips, pour each one into a separate shallow bowl or plate.

Making Chocolate Strawberries Step 2

Melt the Chocolate and Dip the Strawberries

Dip the Strawberries in the Chocolate

Melt the chocolate in your chocolate melter or in the microwave. Although I'm using white chocolate here, the procedure is the same for dark chocolate.

If using a chocolate melter, just add the chocolate chips and turn it on high, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate melts.

If using the microwave, place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe container. Heat on 50% power for 30 seconds. Stir, and repeat until chocolate is melted.

Now dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate, turning to make sure both sides are well coated.

Making Chocolate Strawberries Step 3

Dip the Strawberries in the Toppings

Dip the Chocolate Strawberries in Coconut

Press the chocolate covered strawberries in the coconut, turning to make sure both sides are evenly coated.

Dip the Chocolate Strawberries in Other Toppings

Dipping the Chocolate Strawberries in Chocolate Chips

If you're using a topping like mini chocolate chips or chopped nuts, make sure you press the strawberries into the topping firmly, so that it sticks.

Enjoy Your Chocolate Strawberries!

Now all you need to do is let your chocolate covered strawberries harden. Transfer the cookie sheet to the refrigerator for 15 minutes or so, or until ready to serve.
