The health benefits of a good homemade smoothie is much better than a multivitamin as it holds all the vitamins and minerals our body needs in a natural form.

A Smoothie is usually more thicker than a regular juice and hence is more fulfilling.

It can replace coffee or other caffeinated beverages and provide much needed energy at the same time.

The fresh taste is incomparable.

Excellent fiber intake method while satisfying the recommended daily servings of Fruit and/or veggies.

Boosts our Immunity with very little effort.

Milk -based smoothies (most of them are milk based) provide the much needed Calcium for stronger bones and teeth.

A Homemade smoothie provides Hydration unlike coffee which dehydrates us . Which one do you prefer at the start of your day?

The Basics of Smoothie- Making

There are three things needed to make a great tasting smoothie. They are :
  • A good old blender
  • Fruits - 2 or 3 different kinds (you can use as many as you fancy but i am a bit lazy!)
  • Milk ,yogurt ,sugar (optional)
  • Some people tend to use ice and crush it in the blender. I , on the other hand, prefer to blend the fruits and then freeze it for around 15- 20 minutes after which i refrigerate the smoothie until dinnertime (thats when i usually have it !)

My Favourite Smoothie Recipe!

Banana - Berry Smoothie

Now let me warn you beforehand that I am no smoothie diva, but i can make a great smooothie that appeals to many foodies. The Ingredients I use to make this delectable concoction are invariably fresh or within 2 days of purchase.

Berries such as Strawberries , Blueberries and Blackberries along with Bananas (small) ,Plain yogurt(dannon -lowfat) and regular or skimmed milk. Sugar is Optional.

Now, I DO NOT measure accurately because it is hard to find the time to do so.( I have a one year old !)

What I do is take
a little less than a handful of blackberries,
2 handfuls of blueberries,
2 small bananas( broken into pieces) ,
5 or 6 strawberries(edible part cut into small pieces ) ,
2 tablespoonfuls of yogurt ,
1/2 a cup of milk and
1 teaspoon of sugar

and mix it well in a blender for about 2minutes.
Then I freeze the mixture for 20 minutes.

The Smoothie is now ready to be consumed. If you like you can refrigerate it for a little while longer after removing it from the freezer section.
