Homemade Instant Hot Chocolate Mix
My daughter and I just made up a batch of this delicious hot chocolate mix this weekend, and it turned out so yummy I thought I would share it with you here.
Our plan is to put it into some containers to hand out to teachers and friends before Christmas. When we have done this in the past it has always been a big hit. This mix tastes so much richer and has much more flavor than the powdered mixes you can buy at the store.

Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe
- Serves: many
This recipe allows for some degree of flexibility, so do not worry if you cannot find the exact sizes specified in the recipe. If you come within a few ounces it will be good enough.
Ingredients
- 22 ounce container of chocolate drink mix such as Nesquik
- 12 ounce chocolate malt mix such as Ovaltine
- 16 ounce coffee creamer such as Coffee Mate
- 12 1/2 ounces instant powdered milk such as Carnation Instant Milk
- 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Empty all ingredients into a large container, such as a stockpot. Stir to mix. Blend all of the powders together thoroughly. Store in airtight containers.
To make hot chocolate: Put 3 heaping tablespoons of mix to a large coffee mug and add hot water. Stir to dissolve the mix.
Suggestions: Garnish with marshmallows, whipped cream, peppermint sticks, chocolate chunks or cinnamon sticks.
To make an adult beverage: Add a shot of Kahlua to the prepared hot chocolate, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.

How to Use This Mix to Make Hot Chocolate for a Crowd
If making hot chocolate in a large coffee urn, I advise getting the water hot before adding the hot chocolate mix. Be sure to save room for the mix! You may find it easier to heat the water in a large pot, add the mix, then pour the hot chocolate into the urn for serving.

- I feel ridiculous that I've never thought of making this before. What a great idea for better tasting hot chocolate AND saving some money too. I think I would only substitute Splenda for real sugar and I'll be set. :) Yay!

- Mmmmmm just had some hot chocolate this morning.
My husband has a recipe that only calls for two ingredients milk chocolate bars and half and half. Its very rich and probably not good for you at all.....but its good! =)
