Make Jawbreaker Candy at Home
Jawbreakers, those fun hard candy balls from our childhoods that provided many delicious hours of whittling away the time for no reason. I always loved a trip to the store that included buying a Giant Jawbreaker - those mega sized jawbreakers candies were the best, and I was always intrigued about how jawbreakers were made. I discovered it's actually pretty easy to make jawbreakers candy, so on this page I've included a simple recipe to make jawbreakers, and also some links to more recipes for Old Fashioned Candy. Why not make some do it yourself jawbreakers at home, and then tell us how you like to eat them? I have even heard talk of making jawbreakers at home and selling them online; now there's a sweet idea.

Making Jawbreakers At Home
It's actually pretty easy to make jawbreakers at home, but it takes a lot of sugar

Instructions
Things You'll Need:
8 cups of granulated sugar
2 ½ cups water
Stove
Pot
Spoon
Muffin tin
Refrigerator
Favorite liquid hard candy flavoring

1. Add 3 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water to the pot on the stove. Turn the stove on high and allow the sugar and water to melt together and stir frequently to avoid burning. Add in 2 teaspoons of a flavoring of your choice. When the sugar is completely liquefied and the consistency of syrup, pour into the muffin tin filling each cup about 1/2 way full and sit in the refrigerator to cool for about an hour.
2. Add 2 cups of sugar to a pot and ½ cup of water to the pot and cook on high. Stir often and make sure to keep the sugar off the sides of the pot so as not to burn. Scrape the bottom of the pan to make sure that none is sticking as well. Allow the sugar to come to the consistency of syrup and pour in the tin. Sit in the refrigerator for about an hour to cool.
3. Remove the pan from the refrigerator and dd 3 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water to the pan. Place on the stove turn on high. Cook and stir the mixture until it has a syrupy consistence, as before. Add in 2 teaspoons of the hard candy flavoring and stir in last minute before removing from heat. Pour this into the muffin tin on top of the already refrigerated part and allow to cool for 2 hours.
4. Remove the jawbreakers by cracking the tin in the same manner you would crack an ice tray to remove the ice. Twist the left side one direction while at the same time twisting the right side the other direction. This will loosen the jawbreakers enough to flip the tin over and remove them completely.

Well, maybe not months, but a good long time - at least half an hour!
GrammaLinda says:
I take my time and enjoy them.
miaponzo says:
I don't.. unless they are very small.. :) I just put them in my mouth and leave them..
As quickly as possible, until it's sugar dust on my fingers

Quickly as possible without cracking teeth hopefully
ajgodinho says:
Generally as quickly as possible...it would be a combination of biting and sucking.
d-artist says:
Well that is my intention, but it takes me forever because I don't bite into them
AnnaleeBlysse says:
I'd throw it away if I couldn't finish it right away so I never buy big ones that take all day. I'm more a tiny jawbreaker person.
catbehaviors says:
I just suck on my jawbreakers until they disappear!

- We call them gobstoppers in the UK. If I was lucky I used to get an ice cream after school from the ice cream van which had a gobstopper at the bottom, it was like two treats in one. Never thought of making them myself at home.
