How To Make Money On The Web: Is there a legitimate way to make money on the web?

There are lots of different ways to make money on the web, but the best place to start is with affiliate marketing. Why? Because you can start with literally no budget and you learn the basics of internet marketing.

But what is affiliate marketing?

There are millions of companies on the web selling their products through websites. With many of these companies you can sign up to become an affiliate. This basically means they provide you with a personal link to their website. When you send someone to their website with this link, you get a commission for all the sales this person makes, now or in the future! To get lots of people to the merchants website, you need to get your personal link (hoplink) out there. You can do this in several ways: articles, ads, banners, forum posts, websites, blogs, ... You're only limited by your imagination.

Let's get started!

Before you can make money on the web you need to get registered at a couple of websites. It doesn't take long and of course it's free.

- Clickbank:
Clickbank is a marketplace where you can find digital products to promote (more on this later). The advantage of digital products is that people can download them immediatly after paying and you don't need to bother about storing and mailing your sold items!

- Paypal:
Paypal is basically your online bank. Clickbank will deposite the money from your sales into your Paypal account!

- Squidoo:
Squidoo is a great website that lets you create free one-page websites. You are looking at a squidoo-page right now!

- Ezine Articles:
Ezine articles is an article directory site. I'll tell you more about this later!

- Go Articles:
An alternative for ezine articles.

- USfreeAds:
On this website you can place free ads!

Find a product at Clickbank Market place:

In the Clickbank Marketplace you can search for products in different categories. Find a product that interests you. You'll need to promote this product, so it is always better to chose a product that you know a little bit about.
Make sure it pays more than $25 per sale and has a gravity between 50 and 250.
Gravity is an indication that a product is selling well or not! A gravity of 76 means that 76 people have sold at least one copy of this product in the past month!

Find some keywords to promote your product:

You've found a product. Now you need to promote that product through articles, ads,... But, when you place an ad, you want people to find it. This is where the keywords come in to play. A keyword can be one word, or it can be several words (keyword phrase)
If you are selling a weight loss product, one of your keywords could be: "How to lose weight". Now, how do you know if you have picked a good keyword?
Go to google and enter your keyword with quotation marks: "How to lose weight" and see how many search results it returns.
For free campaigns you'll want it to return less than 10.000 search results (this is the number of websites competing for the number one spot in the search results)
"How to lose weight" will return about 1.500.000 results, so you will need to narrow it down a little bit.
Eg. "how to lose weight without working out" : 263 results. Now that looks a lot better. I bet you could make it to the top of that page.
Another good indication to see if your keyword will be profitable, is to look at the right side of the Google search results. If you see many ads, this means people are willing to pay for this keyword, so they must be making money from this keyword!

Create a landingpage or a lens:

Go to squidoo.com and create a new lens. Put your keyword in the url (eg: www.squidoo.com/how-to-lose-weight-without-working-out)
For content inspiration, you can take a look at other peoples lenses or the salespage for your product. Do NOT copy content from other website! This is plagiarism and will get you band from squidoo and other sites!

How to get more traffic to your lens:

You have a product, a keyword and a landingpage. If you want to make make money on the web, you will need to get targeted traffic (= people who are interested in your product) to your landingpage. Your keyword has 263 websites competing you for the number one spot in the Google search results (which is where you want to be for maximum traffic to your site (lens).

To promote your website for more traffic there are several options. The easiest and most used ones are articles and ads. You can upload articles to Article Directory sites like ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com and your ads to USFreeAds.com. Make sure there is a link to your lens in your articles and ads (linking to the merchant page with your hoplink is not always allowed).

Articles:
Your articles should range anywhere from 300 to 500 words. For inspiration, look at what other people have written about your product or do some research on Google. Make sure you put a link to your squidoo lens in your article otherwise people won't be able to buy your product.
Make sure your keyword can be found in your article. Put it in your title and mention it 5 to 7 times for every hundred words you write.

Ads:
If writing 400 word articles isn't really your thing, you can put up free ads at usfreeads.com. Look at some of the ads that are already on there and then start creating your own. Don't forget to put your link to your lens in it!

It's time to put in work:

If you really want to make money on the web, I suggest you start writing one article a day for 30 days.
In one month you'll have 30 articles! If you can do more, perfect! There are lots of people making thousands of dollars a month with 50 - 100 published articles (in total, not per month). You can reach this number in two months or less! I write two articles every day!

Duplicate Content does not do your business any good. Google loves unique content, so that is the way to go if you want success. So keep a few rules in mind:

- don't just copy articles from other people ( But you can rewrite them in your OWN words). Plagiarism will get you kicked from most sites!And you will not make any money on the web!

-Post your articles/ads only once. If you post one articles on ten different Article Directory sites, the same article will be out there ten times. You could do this with some articles to get more back links, but don't worry about that until you start making some money!

Be original and don't copy if you want to make money on the web! Google will love you for that!

It all depends on your writing skills. In the beginning you'll be learning and things won't go as fast as you want them to go, but after a week, or maybe two, things will start to make sense and you start seeing the bigger picture!
In my opinion you should spend at least 10 to 12 hours a week at this business. But don't take this lightly. This is not a get rich quick thing. You need to be serious about this. If you want to make money on the web you need to follow a proven plan and get in touch with other affiliate marketeers, because in the beginning you'll have so many questions and you need someone to answer them!

There are two ways to make your money work for you. When you have a small budget ( $200 or less) I would definitely recommend you join the Wealthy Affiliates.
For people with a bigger budget there is PPC, but be careful when you start there!

PPC (Pay Per Click):

PPC is less time consuming and gets much faster results ... IF you know what you are doing. For people with zero experience in affiliate marketing I recommend starting with a free campaign to learn the basics.

How does PPC work?

Through a free Adwords account with Google you can put up ads at the right side of the search results. But every time someone clicks your ad, Google charges you for it! And that is just for getting people to your site, they haven't bought anything yet! Clickprices range from $0,01 to $10 per click! So, you see how this can be dangerous?

You really need to know what you are doing when you start a PPC campaign or it is going to cost you a lot of money! Believe me, I have found out the hard way!

But, if writing articles isn't your thing and you don't have that much time, than make sure you know what you are getting into before you start PPC.
