How to start blogging!

How to start your first blog.
I will tell you what products to use that can start making you money immediately!
Step 1: Planning
The absolute first thing to consider when starting a blog is what will it be about. Too often I see people starting a blog that's all over the place. They will do a post about pet training, then they will do a post about cars. Decide one niche to blog about and stick with that. If you decide that you have enough ideas to run multiple blogs on different subjects, do that. But for now, stick to one subject.
Planning is over, time to succeed!
Step 2: Name your website

Now that you have an idea, you need somewhere to tell the world about it. You'll need to buy a domain name. You want your domain name to be memorable, easy to type and if possible, contain the same words that people search for in that niche. The more popular niches are pretty saturated and a lot of the good names are taken. Don't be discouraged! Keep trying and you will find a great domain name. I recommend using www.GoDaddy.com to purchase your domain. They are simply the best domain registrar out there.
Step 3: Hosting

Hosting is important. You want a host that allows you full access to edit every file your website has (only the really bad ones don't do this). You also want a host that allows for unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth. Some hosting providers will limit the amount of bandwidth (traffic) you can have on your site per month. Since we know your blog is going to be getting thousands of hits a day ;), we need to have unlimited bandwidth! Hostgator is who I recommend because they offer all of these things and more. Hostgator has the most used control panel in the world, and they are the least expensive choice around. Be sure to use the coupon code moneyninja when you sign up to get 25% off!
Now you need to link your domain to your host. If you log into your GoDaddy account and click the my domains section you should see an option for nameservers. Just change the nameserver to the ones HostGator sent to you and look something like:
NS1.HostGator.com
NS2.HostGator.com
Step 4: Wordpress
There are a lot of blogging engines out there, but none of them are as robust as Wordpress. There is a reason it is the most commonly used content management system. Wordpress is extremely powerful and will allow you to do anything you want to do. I can do entire posts about Wordpress configuration, themes, etc. but that is not what this post is about. With Hostgator, Wordpress is a 1-click 10-second install right from your cpanel. Once it is installed, you can log in, experiment with the dashboard and see how it all works. You are going to need to choose a theme for your blog, this will determine the look of everything from your blog posts to your logo (initially). The most important part of your theme is your ad space. A theme without ad space is a theme that will not make you any money. There are some great themes out there, but some of them cost a lot of money. If you are like I was when I started, I didn't have an extra $47 to drop on themes, so just make sure you find a good one with a good amount of ad space.
Step 5: Start Posting!
This is the most important part. Make sure you post valuable content because that is what will ultimately bring people back to your site. Since it can be complicated, I will cover how to start monetizing your blog in a future post so stay tuned!

How to use basic html in your blog.

The first thing we'll cover is how to catch the reader's eye. This can be done via bolding, italicizing and headings. For bold all you need to do is type: This is bold text. and it will display like: This is bold text. Then to italicize, use the tag.
Next come the headings:
This is heading one
Code: This is heading one
This is heading two
Code: This is heading two
This is heading three
Code: This is heading three
Probably one of the most important is linking! Links are how you make your money, so remember this! The html to create a link looks like: make money online and that code makes: make money online. In between the quotes you put the website you are linking to and after the first > you put the text you want to be clickable. The text you tie to the link is important because those become keywords that are associated to your site. If a bunch of sites on the internet link to your site with the words "best site ever", your site will start to show up in search results for "best site ever." In September of 2006 a bunch of people linked to George W. Bush's biography using the words "failure" and "miserable failure" and he became the number 1 search result for them! So if you are linking to your site, do it with the right keywords!
Obviously there is much more to learn when it comes to html, but this will be enough for you to get up on your feet. Let me know in the comments if you think I left anything out!
It is now free to post on ebay!
They announced that they are going to allow users to sell up to 50 items a month and they will not have to pay fees until the item is sold. This is a major step towards making ebay a viable way to make money. For a lot of users, due to all the fees just to list an item, they went to sites like craigslist, or local classifieds. But now, maybe not anymore. When a site charges fees before listing, it will scare away a lot of users and that is exactly what happened to ebay.
Recently, ebay has become overrun by companies selling and not as many personal ads. This may be what brings your average user back to ebay to sell. They are planning to massively increase revenue with this move. Ebay is aiming to make $15 billion in revenue by 2013. It will remain to be seen if this will take ebay to the next level. Maybe it is time to join the ebay affiliate program because the buzz will definitely generate traffic, your blog may as well be the one sending some of it.
Review: Maxblogpress Ninja Affiliate Plugin

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure to download Maxblogpress Ninja Affiliate plugin...and see how amazingly EASY it is to turn any keyword on my site into affiliate links that make money.
The coolest thing about this wordpress plugin is actually the option to automatically convert your blog keywords into links to the affiliate product of your choice; the best part is that even your old keywords can turn into money-making affiliate links.
Why would you want to convert old keywords into affiliate links?
Just think about it for a moment - what if you found a brand new affiliate program that you can't wait to get started promoting on your blog. You don't have to wait until you write your next post, just use Ninja Affiliate plugin and it will convert the keywords of your choice into affiliate links automatically! You work once, and all the keywords you input will be turned into links that make money, without you having to edit any post whatsoever.
And how this helps you? By saving you a ton of time, effort and energy.
What that means is... instead of editing links and posts, you actually have a lot more time to write content and promote your blog - what will eventually drive visitors to your money-making links.
What I like about this little plugin is that it's updated from time to time, and new features and add-ons are loaded frequently.
What I don't like about Maxblogpress Ninja Affiliate? Glad you asked! Well, maybe it's just me - but there's a learning curve to mastering the plugin and getting used to it. It'd probably take you a few hours to learn all its options and experience the full potential, but it's well worth it.
Don't tell me about a plugin with no learning curve as I don't believe it; great plugins take time to learn, and Maxblogpress Ninja Affiliate is top rated, period.
It's in your best interest to buy it today if you want to SAVE a ton of time, effort and energy on editing links and actually dedicating yourself on what makes you real money [writing posts and driving traffic to your blog].
And don't forget!
If you grab the plugin you unlock FREE on going upgrades - So get it here!
P.S. I just forgot to mention this - the plugin also helps you fight commission theft and cloak your links; a must-have for serious affiliates!
Why you won't make money with free blogs
Free blogs are great for people just starting out, figuring out what the whole blogosphere is all about. But the truth is, you will never be able to make money if you use free blogging services for your main blog. Any professional blogger will tell you, the first step to doing what we do is paying for your own website. None of your potential customers is going to take www.petsupplies.blogspot.com or www.amazonreviews.wordpress.com seriously. This article will explain some of the reasons why that is.Ad Space
Most free blogging services do not allow you to have many ads on your blog. They may allow something like Adsense or YPN, but ask most bloggers and they will tell you that those aren't the ad networks that pay the bills. You can make pretty good money from adsense, but I wouldn't count on it. The real money is in selling ad space to people wanting their ads on your site, which you can't do on the free sites. There are also multiple affiliate sites that you can promote on your self-hosted blog, that you can't even link to on some of the free services. Content is what brings users back to your site, but ads are what pay the bills. Eventually, when you have some experience, you are likely going to want to write your own e-book, or product and you are going to want to sell it. That is not going to be very easy on a free blog. Who is going to want to buy a product from someone who won't even buy their own website? The answer is no one will and you will never make money from all your hard work.
Customizability
Hosting your own blog gives you the ability to fully customize everything. You can change the link structure, add a favicon, change your header, add logos and everything else you can think of. Some of the free blogging sites allow for a little customizability, but in the long run, you want to create your own brand that people will recognize you by. You don't want to be the guy/girl using the default blogger theme from google on your blog.
Article Marketing
One of the common ways people build traffic to their blog is article marketing. It is a great way to get your content out there and get people to your site. The problem is, many of the article marketing sites will not accept affiliate links in an article. They also require that you actually own the domain. While there are ways around this, the easiest is going to be just to host your own site.
Summary
If you want to make money on the web, you are going to need to host your own blog. I would recommend iPage, but Hostgator is also a great alternative. You can use my site as a resource for getting your self-hosted site set up and get started making money now!
How to make an amazon store!
Starting an affiliate store is super easy and can get you started making money fast. There are a few ways to go about it, but first as always, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Find a market that doesn't have much competition by using keyword research. You can use free tools to do your keyword research like Google Adwords keyword tool and Traffic Travis to find keywords related to your niche that don't have a lot of competition and use them in your site. The only thing that will get your amazon affiliate store up in the search results is making sure you do your SEO homework.
Where to start your amazon affiliate store
There are a few sites that you can get premade amazon affiliate store for really cheap. You can sometimes find stores that are already getting traffic on sites like ebay, but that is no guarantee. A site I have used in the past to get an affiliate store started is Dork Websites. They sell premade niche stores and blogs to get you started making some affiliate money. It is extremely simple and can be up and running in hours. This guide will be written using their site builder as a reference, but you can use any of the great products out there to make your amazon affiliate store.
First, choose your affiliate store niche.
Affiliate store list.
They have plenty to choose from, but if you don't like any of them, there are other products out there to promote. Once you have purchased your premade amazon affiliate store, you can set up hosting for your site and buy a domain name. Dork Websites can handle all of this for you and it is a great way to get started, but I would recommend moving your site to hosting like iPage so you have more customizability, but you can leave your hosting as it is for now.
Once you've set up your hosting and domain name, you can get started customizing your affiliate store. The first thing you will want to change is their awful default color scheme. Choose whatever colors you like, but make it more eye pleasing than bright purple with a rainbow header! Next, you will want to log in and familiarize yourself with your control panel. The default address for your control panel is www.yoursite.com/admin.php and Dork Websites will have sent you your username and password. I recommend changing both of them for security reasons.
Next, you will want to change the amazon information. It looks like this:
Amazon Affiliate Store Settings
You need to go to Amazon's affiliate program page and create an account. This will allow Amazon to track referrals you send their way. Then you will need to create an Amazon Access Key ID and Secret Access Key. For that, you will need to create an Amazon Web Services account. This will allow you to use Amazon's API to populate your Amazon affiliate store with products. This blog post has great instructions for how to set up your Amazon AWS stuff so check that out, get the info changed, then come back here. I'll wait...
Monetize your Amazon affiliate store!
Ok, now you've got your Amazon affiliate store set up and are ready to start making money items in your niche. But you may have noticed, there are already ads on your page! Where did they come from? Associate-o-matic (your amazon affiliate store builder) has their own ads by default. If you were to leave them on, it would make them some extra money on the side, which is pretty smart. But you want to make money for yourself, not for them, so let's get those changed. If you have already read my post about how to monetize your site, you'll know how to make affiliate ads related to your niche. If you have not read it yet, now is the time to choose some products to promote. Choose products that are relevant to your site and if possible, choose ones that create the banners for you.
The custom boxes page is where you will put your ad code. It looks like this:
Affiliate Store Custom Boxes
You'll notice that each of the boxes contains This is to help you know what size ads to put there. They recommend that you use certain companies, but it is your affiliate store, so do what you want with it!
Get traffic to your Amazon affiliate store!
Now what you need to do is get some traffic. I already laid out how to do that in my how to get traffic guide. Once you have traffic coming to your site, you'll start making money right away. There is nothing stopping you! Start right away!
What if I don't want an Amazon affiliate store?
That is ok, they aren't for everyone. Maybe you don't want to worry about promoting a store and answering customer questions. There are still awesome ways to promote Amazon and Ebay products. There is a plugin called phpzon/phpbay that will allow you to promote products right in your blog beautifully. They are pretty slick plugins that make amazing looking product links right in your blog.
So no matter what your preferences are, there are always ways to make money online that will cater to them. Experiment and try a few so you will know if an Amazon affiliate store is right for you or if you should just stick with a niche blog.
Feel free to post links to your newly made stores in the comments!
Review: Does Commission Crusher Really Work?

Lately there's been a lot of talk about this new program that's been coming in my email inbox and being wildly talked about online right now. I'm sure you've seen the emails too. But you see, I got to see an insider's view into what Commission Crusher is all about - and wanted to let the masses know.
So what exactly is Commission Crusher?
Commission Crusher is based on a simple marketing concept that anybody can duplicate online. It also has the benefit of never having to compete against one another again! This method allows anyone to find the best affiliate campaigns and swipe them for their profits.
The real beauty behind Commission Crusher is the software engine that drives the product titled "Ad Assault". This amazing piece of software will allow you with a flick of a switch find tons of hot websites in any market any niche and tell you everything you need to know to get tons of traffic from these websites.
The best part is you don't have to worry about getting your site submitted to Google, Yahoo, MSN or any of that crap! This method is unlike anything I've ever seen before online.
... another great thing is - Steve walks through every step of the process on video. So you don't have to be a computer expert to do it. And they have an awesome support team to help you with any issues you may have.
Can you get any better than that?
So simply put - Commission Crusher works. It's a fantastic product. If you've been looking for a way to make constant money online with something that's not going to disappear tomorrow, this is it.
Grab a copy before they sell out. I highly recommend you get your hands on this software now!
GO here to crush the competition!

How to get more hits on your blog!
Search is a great way to get unsolicited traffic. You'll remember from my post about how to create your blog in 5 days that you want to choose a domain name that is as close to the common search results for your niche as possible. By doing some research using google adwords keyword tool, you can find that the term "dogs" is searched 16,600,000 times a month globally. Google naturally rates sites higher that are exact matches to the search terms in their algorithm. So you want to be the top search result organically for a commonly searched term in your niche, which in the previous example would be www.dogs.com. Most of the single words like that are taken, but with some research you can find a keyword that is searched commonly, but does not have a lot of competition.
But even if you already have your domain name and it does not match the search term exactly, you are still ok! What you'll want to do is called SEO or Search Engine Optimization. SEO can be extremely complicated so I'll just touch on it here and leave the advanced details for a future post. But, what you want to do is optimise your site so they are maximally visible to search engines. The first thing you will want to do is change your permalink structure.
Wordpress by default has a permalink structure like this:
http://dogs.com/?p=N
This isn't very searchable, because no one (especially the search engines) is going to remember that the link to your post titled "How to train your dog" is tied to the url http://dogs.com/?p=N! Instead, change your url structure to something like %postname%. For the "How to train your dog" example, this would change the url to http://dogs.com/how-to-train-your-dog. Google identifies dashes as spaces so searches for "how to train your dog" are now more likely to land on your page. So in your wordpress dashboard go to Settings>Permalinks and change the structure like below:
The other thing you will want to do to get higher results is get backlinks from high pageranked sites. This is not always the easiest thing to do, because you can't just ask every site to put a link to your page on their site. There are link exchanges that will do this, but in my experience, you aren't going to get high value links. The best way to get links is to comment on other blogs in your niche. DON'T SPAM them or they will delete your comments every time and you'll be back where you started. Just make meaningful comments on their page and be sure to put your website in the appropriate field. Many of these links have the nofollow tag after them, which means web crawlers (search engines) can not follow them to your site, so they don't count as a backlink to your site. However, some sites allow following from the comments and these can be extremely valuable. Comment hunt is a custom google search that allows you to find blogs in your niche that have dofollow links. Again, DON'T SPAM, you want your links to be valuable and you don't want to be a spammer.
There are entire blogs devoted to SEO and becoming the top result in google, so this is an extremely condensed version. I will definitely be covering the advanced tips later, but this is a good primer.
Yahoo! Answers
While google pretty much has the search market dominated. Yahoo! has the answers market cornered and there are tons of people looking for valuable information in every niche. What you'll want to do is find questions relevant to your niche and give valuable answers. At the bottom of the answer there is a field for source. While that field does not create clickable links (doesn't count as a nofollow or dofollow link), it does increase exposure to your site. My first day on Yahoo! Answers got me a commission with in 1 hour of posting. BE CAREFUL not to post any affiliate links in your answer or source, because you will get banned. Only give people the information they are genuinely asking for, and don't stray too far from that because they will mark your questions as spam and ban you with little to no warning.
Social News and Bookmarking Websites
Social news websites are massive sites where users vote on content they like. Valuable content comes to the top while less valuable content goes to the bottom. Reddit, digg, mixx get massive amounts of traffic and have been known to take sites to their knees by funneling so much traffic their way. You can get your link on these sites 2 ways,
1) Submit a link yourself
2) Submit comments including your link (possibility of getting "buried" if people vote it down)
Besides social news sites are social bookmarking sites. Like delicious, stumble upon, diigo, etc. These allow users to bookmark sites they like and share their bookmarks with other users. These links can be extremely powerful and can funnel traffic at an amazing rate.
Squidoo Lenses
Squidoo is a site that has user created content (much like a blog) and allows you to get laser targeted traffic. You can create a "Lens" in your genre and post information there that eventually leads users to your main blog/site. It helps increase your online presence and is just another place on the internet that has tons of users that your site can potentially be exposed to. It is all about getting your name out there in as many places as possible and squidoo is awesome for that right now. Squidoo extremely hot in the search engines right now. Plus, it is easy to get highly ranked search results from Squidoo lenses for the most competitive search terms that would be much harder to do with a lower PR site. When people search for keywords related to your squidoo lense, it will sometimes be a top result for their query just because squidoo has so much pr.
Twitter is one of the most powerful ways to generate traffic for your site. There are very few places on the internet where you can put your link and guarantee that thousands of people will see it instantly. The only problem new users have with twitter is they don't have any followers so they never get their true potential. You could search for people who are tweeting things about your niche and manually add them, but that takes tons of time. A great tool I use is called Tweet Adder and of all the twitter tools out there, I have found it to be the easiest to use. It allows you to schedule tweets, shorten urls, mass follow and mass unfollow users all with the click of a button. You may be wondering why you would want to unfollow users automatically. If you go on twitter and see a user who is following 1000 users and only has 40 people following them are you going to think they are very credible? Absolutely not, so what tweet adder will do is auto unfollow people who do not follow back within a configurable amount of time. If you get any tool I recommend, get this one. It even offeres a free trial so you can try it risk free without giving them any credit card info!
Another program that is great for Twitter is MarketMeSuite and it is exceptional. It lets you brand tweets with your link, target based on geolocation and a whole host of other amazing tools. MarketMeSuite is the bentley of social marketing software!
It should almost go without saying that you should use Facebook to market yourself. 1 in 13 people worldwide have an account and that number is only growing! Create a fan page and start getting likes. You will not regret it, and can definitely make money if you use the correct terms. There are so many things you can do with your Facebook fan page (not group, they are outdated). Offer special deals, link to your other sites (youtube, your blog, etc), create your branding (logos, images). There are simply too many people using Facebook for you to ignore the massive traffic you can be getting from it. I'll cover more on Facebook in another post.
Article Marketing
Use articles to promote your websites by publishing them to various article directories. It has been around for ages and was once the best way to get thousands of unique hits per day just by itself. Google recently made a change to their algorithm that puts less value in their links, but that doesn't make it ineffective entirely. When you use a site like Article Base, website owners can grab your article and post it, giving you valuable backlinks. The algorithm change makes this less effective, but it can still be huge. Make sure you use keywords relevant to your niche in your article and title so website owners will be able to find it.
Forum Posts
Join some forums that are related to your niche and start posting. Some forums will let you put a link to your website in your signature, which is another effective link. You will also become a resource to other people in your niche and that will bring people to your site. Forums are a great resource for just about every subject out there. Just become a mainstay on some of the forums and people will start to recognize you. They will start coming to you for answers to their questions and it will be incredible for your analytics.
Classifieds
Finally, post classified ads under sections that are relevant to what you are selling. Classifieds are great because people who are on classifieds are already looking for the product you're selling. THEY WANT TO BUY, all they need is a link to a site with the product they want. When I started my first amazon affiliate store, I was able to get 80 hits a day just from classifieds and nowhere else. I don't see many people using this method and it is pure gold. Just be sure to follow the terms of any site you join and make sure when you link, you are using anchor text with your site's keywords. These are also nofollow links, but with a site like craigslist, the pr is so high, it is still valuable.
Come see us for more pointers on how to
Review: Auto Traffic Tycoon
Individuals who try their hand in affiliate marketing are higher than ever today. Do you know why most of them fail?Well, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Most people try to do all of it on their own, which is where the failure comes into play. However, the Auto Traffic Tycoon was created and developed to change all that starting March 10, 2011. Once it is released anyone will be able to make money in affiliate marketing.
The Man behind the Software
Danny Carter is the secret behind the Auto Traffic Tycoon software. This system was specifically built because of his failures in the affiliate marketing world. InMotion Hosting is one of the best hosts around and is the most popular for businesses. They offer VPS, business class hosting and dedicated servers all at affordable prices. They also offer personal hosting for as low as $3.00/mo which is a great deal!
Here are their main selling points:
- FREE New Domain or FREE Transfer
- 2 Sites On 1 Account - Included for FREE! (basic business package)
- Fast email with SPAM blocking
- Different levels of hosting so you can grow
- 90 day money back guarantee (best we know of)
- Very reliable with 99.9% Uptime
- Easy to use control panel and a premium web site builder
- Unlimited disk space and Unlimited monthly traffic ($8.95 plan)
While they don't offer a lot of the freebies that some of their competitors offer. What they do have is scalability. If your site starts getting a ton of traffic, you can easily upgrade to a higher plan and you won't experience any downtime. They are definitely at the top of the list for businesses, but maybe not what you need when you are starting out. Rating 4/5!
JustHost

JustHost are dedicated to providing their customers with the most reliable web hosting service possible at the best possible price. Only $4.95 per month!
They offer:
- FREE Domain For Life & FREE Instant Setup
- No Hidden Fees
- Unlimited GB's of Web Space
- Unlimited GB's of Transfer
- Unlimited Domain Hosting
- Unlimited E-Mail Accounts
- Unlimited MySQL Databases
I hear mixed reviews about this service as well. Some people say the support is bad, others say the services are oversold. I have even read some reports of customer service taking up to 3 hours to respond to an email. In this industry minutes of downtime can be devastating and that type of response rate would be unacceptable. 3/5 stars.
Summary
There are a lot of great companies out there, but after extensive research, I have found these companies to be the cream of the crop. They are all great at what they do and that made it hard to make a decision on the best out there. So I will break it down into a couple categories.
- InMotion Hosting: Best business hosting.
- WebHostingPad: Best bang for your buck.
- Hostgator: Most trusted host.
Hopefully, this review of the best hosting sites in 2011 is helpful to you and gets you started on your journey to making money as a professional blogger. Let me know who your favorite hosting companies are in the comments.
How to get your sites in search engines.

So you've set up your blog, started making posts and you realize that you have missed a major step. How do I submit my site to search engines? This short guide will tell you how to get your site on Google, Yahoo!, Bing and a bunch of other search engines so you can start making money from search!
How to Add Your Site
The major search engines are easy to add sites to, but are harder to rank #1 in. Right now you just want to worry about getting your site submitted so the search engines know you are there. Most search engines have a way to create a short description about your site and have a way to give them your link so they can add it to their list of sites to crawl.
Submit your site to Google
It couldn't be easier to submit your site to Google, all you have to do is go to that link and type in a short description of your site, add your site's url and click "add site." Simple right? It can take Google weeks or even months to crawl your site, so make it easier for them by setting up an account on their webmaster tools site and submit a sitemap. This tells the Google bot where all your pages are so it basically has a road map of your site. This will help you get indexed faster so be sure to do it. There are plenty of sites out there that will generate a sitemap for you. But since you are running a Wordpress blog, I recommend using Google XML Sitemaps. As it will automatically update your sitemap and notify the major search engines.

Ebay may pay better in the short run, but Amazon is much better for longterm, passive income!
moneyninja says:
Amazon gives slightly higher commissions and I think they are still more relevant in the consumer's eyes.
