How to Make Perfect Coffee
It was before getting out of bed one morning, thinking about how wonderful my first cup of coffee was going to be, that I started to mull around how to make perfect coffee. For some it is all about the beans, others it is all about the stuff you enhance your coffee experience with and for still others I think it is the ritual of making the coffee that does it for them. Here is a look at how to make the perfect coffee around the world, who knows you might become a world famous Barista or maybe just famous among your friends.

Drip Style
Beans and water are the two ingredients that immediately come to mind when one considers making perfect coffee. To have the very best results you must start with the very best ingredients. You might be surprised to learn that having a sparkly clean coffee pot and drip coffee maker plays a significant role in the end taste of your coffee.
To clean your drip coffee maker run vinegar through the drip cycle once and then run water through the drip cycle to clear out the vinegar. Wash your glass coffee pot with soap and a "magic eraser". Then wash it good again with clear water. Don't forget to wash your drip basket. The coffee pot and drip basket benefit greatly with a trip through the dishwasher between brews.
Though their are frugal people who like to use those baskets instead of paper filters, it is my opinion that the baskets get coated with the oil from coffee beans and turns the coffee bitter so unless you are going to be washing that basket in the dishwasher between brews, stick with paper filters. Here is a Standard Brewing Ratio Chart
The Steps to Make Perfect Coffee
*Grind your beans
*Put your filter or basket in the drip basket
*Add 2 tbs of coffee for every 8 oz (1 cup) of water
*Pour your filtered water into the water heater
*Turn on coffee maker
*Enjoy

Espresso Style
Though at first blush making espresso seems like it should be easy peasy it is a bit more complicated. There are whole forums dedicated to the making of perfect espresso. That said, here is my very simplified explanation of making espresso.

You will first need an espresso maker. They come in a variety of forms. There are the big espresso makers designed for coffee houses and upscale restaurants and then there are espresso makers that you can use on your stove top.
Espresso is a strong coffee, a little goes a long way. Europeans often drink it like a shot with a little lemon rind twisted in before drinking. Americans tend to like everything sweet so sugar or frothy cream may be added to increase the volume of the drink and to sweeten it.

- Filtered water and freshly ground beans make the perfect brew for me. I do love my coffee! I like it almost any way you can make it as long as it's not weak. I cannot abide insipid (or tepid, for that matter) coffee.

- A good coffee pot makes a huge difference. We got a Cuisinart a few years back. It has a themal caraffe that keeps the coffee hot and avoids it getting that burned flavour we all know.

- Um - I'm the sort of person who 'boils the kettle and pours in the instant coffee mix'; but I love your lens. I've featured it on my lens about Napoleon I (http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-make-perfect-coffee) because Napoleon LOVED coffee and would have appreciated your lens on how to make it perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
