Create These Easy Vintage Christmas Postcard Tree Ornaments

Using Vintage Postcards To Create Christmas Tree Ornaments

It's been a long standing tradition in my family to make a new homemade ornament, card or gift and then we gift them to each other. What I enjoy most about this tradition is it has left me with a Christmas Tree full of handmade ornaments and memories. Sometime I make complex Christmas Tree ornaments and then on other years I do something simple, but no less elegant.

Since I enjoy antique, vintage and Victorian these ornaments were the perfect match for me. They are great for hanging on the Christmas tree or using them as gift tags. I hope you enjoy making these ornaments as much as I did.

And best of all these easy and yet lovely Christmas Tree ornaments require only a handful of items to make them..

How To Make These Easy Christmas Tree Ornaments

Step 1. Select two postcards of same size.

They don't have to be the same postcard though I did mine that way because I had two sets of vintage postcards to work with.

Step 2. Spray Glue Or Adhesive Onto The Interior Sides Of Both Postcards

Step 3. Press Postcards Together Being Careful to Line Up The Edges.

If you get them just a little off kilter you can trim the down in size once dry.

Step 4. Use Brayer To Make Sure The Glue Bond Is Solid.

Or simply stick into magazines and put weights on them.

Step 5. Leave To Dry Thoroughly

Step 6. Use Hole Punch To Make Hanger Hole

Step 7. Add The Gold Thread Or Red Ribbon Hanger.

Spray Glue Your Postcards Together

Items Needed To Create The Vintage Postcard Christmas Tree Ornaments

I prefer using a spray glue to traditional glue or glue sticks because spray glue lays down a thin uniform layer of adhesive which completely bonds the two postcards together.

NOTE: If using a traditional glue do so carefully. A thin uniform layer of glue is much harder to achieve with traditional glues and if too much glue is applied the postcards can buckle and warp.

Brayer For Bonding The Spray Glued Postcards Together

Items Needed To Create The Vintage Postcard Christmas Tree Ornaments

To use brayer simply roll with some pressure across the surface of the Vintage Christmas postcards. I usually roll from different angles and from both sides, just to make sure I've done a thorough job of it.

Add A Little Sparkle And Personalize Your Vintage Postcard Christmas Tree Ornaments With Glitter.

Glitter is extremely messy so once again make sure you lay down lots of paper for easy clean up. The glue pen works great for creating fine lines or intricate details with glitter.

An Extra Tip For Using Glitter To Embellish Your Vintage Postcard Christmas Tree Ornaments

Use a basin or try for sprinkling on your glitter. These helps to dramatically reduce the mess but also allows you to collect and reuse the extra glitter.

Wonderful lens, you are a woman after my own heart. I think it is great how eBay has opened up the possibilities for collectors - I purchased real Victorian postcards just this Christmas: with the postmark on them already.
