How To Make Wire Jewelry

If you thik that wire jewelry making is something only some people can learn how to do, you are wrong. It can be so simple, easy and fun, that even children can learn how to make wire jewelry. I took the picture below somewhere last year, when I made a simple, but really beautiful wire necklace with a wire wrapped pendant.

The pendant too is handmade and it is actually a handmade bead, made in mille fiori technique, which I also use, especially when making floral bead jewelry.

Sometimes (some people would probably say that always) the most simeple things are the best :) Which is also true when taking wire jewelry into consideration. When I made the wire necklace (see the photo above), I was also thinking about how to make a simple, but good looking pendant which would hang from the wire necklace.

I never watched any wire jewelry making tutorial, but rather tried to make something completely out of my head.

I simply took:

- 1 m of 0,8 mm wire, a handmade bead made in mille fiori technique (I could make a lens about this technique)
- then I cut a 5 cm long piece of wire and made an "ear" pin from it, set a bead on it and made another hole at the end (I used round nouse pliars for twisting the wire)
- after that I used the remaining of the wire and start wrapping it (2 times) around the first "ear" hole at the bottom of the pendant
- then lead it to the "ear" hole at the top of the pendant and wrap it once around that hole
- then I set it 3-5 mm next to the wire on the bead, leading it again to the bottom of the pendant
- and finally, after the whole pendant was wrapped in the wire, which looked as thin stripes, set aside for 3-5 mm, I made 2 final wraps around the upper wire "ear" hole of the pendat and cut off the remaining if the wire with the cutting pliars

How I made the necklace: Then I used 55 cm long wire to make a rounded necklace on which the wire wrapped pendant could hang. I didn't use any special endings to finish the necklace, like lobster clasps, because I made a simple "S" twists with the round nose pliars at the both ends of the wire, which prooved to finish the necklace just fine and the necklace with the wire wrapped pendant is this way securely placed on my neck :)
