Make A Disney Autograph Book

Making Disney Memories:

Want to create an autograph memory book for your Disney Trip? Then you are on the best "how-to page" for this wonderfully easy craft project!

In the autumn of 2010, six of my seven grandchildren (all under the age of 7 years!) were going to be at Disneyworld at the same time! My husband and I decided that we could not miss such an important event.

Four of the kids were seeing the Orlando theme park for the very first time. I wanted to give them something so they could remember the trip for a long time. What could I give them that would be really valuable and not add to the clutter of toys that they already had?

I searched the web and found lots of creative ideas. The idea that I liked the best was the Disney Memory/Autograph Book. I decided that I could make two autograph books--one for each family.

Again after lots of webpage viewing, I came up with a plan for a personalized memory book that was easy, durable and versatile.

The image here is of one of the autograph/memory books as a work in progress. I was playing around with the ribbons and Disney stickers. Unless otherwise stated the images used on this page were taken by me or a member of my family.

How I made a Disney Autograph Book

Includes helpful links for a Disney Design Font

One of the Disney Memory Books--after the trip!I wanted my Disney book to be:

1. Big enough to put a photo the pages
2. Big enough not to get lost in a giant purse
3. Small enough not to be too heavy to carry around Disney
4. Paper thick enough that the autograph will not bleed through
5. Have lots of pages (at least 50)
6. Red or Black Hardcover(for boys or girls)
7. Attractive and durable
8. Special

Here is a photo (to the right) of one of the memory books I made--taken after the trip. It held up pretty well, I think.

How To Make a Disney Autograph/Memory Scrapbook:

First Step:

Assemble all your supplies.

Then:

Play around with the placement of the stickers and ribbons.

Next:

Place all the stickers on the cover. Rub them on gently.

Then:
Attach the ribbons to the cover using a good quality glue stick or clear drying white glue product (Tacky Glue). Put the glue on the ribbon, not on the cover. Make sure to wrap the ends of the ribbon around to the inside (1 inch) and glue that as well. Rub the ribbons to make sure they are sticking well. Put waxed paper inside the cover to keep the ribbons from sticking to the first page. Let the ribbon dry. Glue stick dries faster.

If you want to (and if you have a printer), you can make a personalized faceplate for your book like I did. Here is a link for free Disney Fonts: Disney Font Themes.

Finally, put the pre-cut colored paper on the inside front cover. Use glue stick all over the side you want to touch the cover, and gently rub the paper after you put it in place. Pay close attention to the edges. This will cover the ragged ribbon edges.

I found the font for "Disney" and printed up a faceplate for the autograph book.
"This Book Belongs To......" in the front;
"Created by Gigi on [the date of our trip]" on the back inside cover.

Notice how a picture is put on the page facing the Disney characters who did the autograph? Great idea, isn't it?

Supplies for my autograph memory book project:

What you need for this craft project--

Supplies for the Autograph Book on Amazon:

I spent a lot of time trying to find just the right book to use for my autograph book project. I wanted one that was easy to open and lie flat so the characters could sign it without having to hold it open. Their hands are big and it is difficult for them to see, too. Of course, the princes and princesses have no trouble holding books or pens.

What I finally found was a "wired sketch journal" or an "art journal" at Hobby Lobby (a chain craft supply store in the US). It was in the "art supplies" section of the store with the oil paints, pencils and brushes. Michael's (another store in the US) did not have what I needed. All of their "journals" and "sketch books" had perforated pages that could be torn out easily.

A Good Pen to Use with the Autograph Book:

I also had trouble finding a good pen for the autograph book. I finally settled on this one. It is a Sharpie that is retractable--no lost caps! It also promises that it will not bleed through the paper.

I am not so sure, however, that it is big enough for the characters to hold. You could buy one at the park that is recommended by Disney Cast members.

Personalized Storybook/Autograph/Memory Book Idea:

Great idea for saving memories!

I found the following idea in a newsletter that I get from Mouseavers.com

For a personalized memory/autograph storybook: Purchase a storybook featuring characters that you have planned to meet at Disney. For instance, if you will be eating a meal at the Crystal Palace, get a book with Winnie the Pooh characters in it. Yes, you should buy the book in advance and take it with you on the day of your reservation. Later you can paste photos of your child (in my case the photo shows Grandpa with the 3 grandkids) with the characters on to the blank pages at the back of the book.

Editor's Note from Mickie_G: You cannot do that with a Nook or Kindle, can you?

So, will you be making a Disney Autograph Book?

Spring Break, Summer Vacation, Thanksgiving, Christmas---they will be here before you know it! If you are going to any Disney theme park, you need to get hopping and either make your own book or buy one.

Have a great time at Disney!

Oh, here is one last picture of three of my grands getting Chip and Dale to autograph their memory book:

Super cute... My sister has been a huge disney fan since infancy, and still dreams of working with them someday... I have to admit, it did rub off on me, so I enjoyed this lens... I've loved all of your other lenses that I've checked out.... Fabulous ideas, especially, on what topic to "squidoo" about. Thanks for sharing!

This is an absolutely wonderful idea - I loved getting autographs from the characters as a kid, and this is a wonderful way to make those autographs special. Blessed by a SquidAngel!

I love your idea. I make big scrapbooks and have the characters sign on pages I can put in the album, but I love the idea of adding photos to the autograph book. Great lens.
