To Comb or Not To Comb

Some people say curly hair should never be combed. What is your opinion?

Should you comb your curly hair?

No

MeCurl says:

Finger comb only

Slothlover says:

No, it ruins the curls and makes it look bad.

Camaro says:

No you don't need to comb, you can get popular hair styles without combing your hair at Popula Hair Styles.

NaturallyCurly says:

Yes, just don't brush it.

Ekkekko says:

It's definitely a good idea to comb your curly hair to remove tangles. I'm mixed (my mom is from India and my dad is from Madagascar), so my hair is super curly, but very long (23 inches). From my own experience, I always shampoo first, put conditioner in my hair, then I pull it up off my neck and continue my shower. Once I'm done doing everything I need to do other than to rinse the conditioner out before hoppin' out the shower, I let my conditioning hair back down (by this point, it's been about 2~4 minutes since I put conditioner first on), run a wide tooth comb through it (I have no breakage whatsoever, it untangles easily, and it's easy to manage). Once I have all the knots combed out, I part it how I'll want it styled for that day, then rinse the conditioner out. Then, hop out the shower, dry off, get dressed, towel dry hair, then put gel/mousse/leave-in conditioner (depending on the day, I'll use something different) and GO!

Hope this helps!

I think anyone with naturally curly hair would agree that curly hair is a mixed blessing. Sometimes we love our curly hair and other times we wish we could make it smooth and straight.

Great lens! Curly hair can be harder to manage than regular hair, but with the ideas you talked about in this lens, it makes it a whole lot easier.
