How To Mow The Lawn
A Step By Step Guide To Mowing The Lawn
Here's your How to Mow The Lawn checklist:- Clear your garden of stray items including toys, branches, and twigs
- Wear goggles and ear plugs if using noisy electrical.
- Ensure you have closed-toe shoes on your feet
- Get your Edger and trimmer out and make sure they are working properly
- Ensure your Lawn mower has sharp mowing blades
Firstly walk through your garden and check for branches, garbage, and any other stray items like toys before you start mowing. When you are working with equipment such as lawn mowers, you do need to protect yourself. It is all too easy for some stray item to be sucked underneath the lawn mower and become a projectile that which could easily cause physical harm to you or indeed anyone standing around while you are mowing.
Then you need to collect your lawn maintenance equipment together so that everything is where you need it. You are going to need a lawn mower, an edger and a trimmer. You will also need your earplugs, eye goggles, and your closed-toe shoes. Don't forget to get your leaf blower out or a broom and dustpan.
Now we are ready to start! Make sure to firstly cut the edges of the lawn with your edger making a nice defined edge. This makes your garden look nice but will also make it far easier to cut your grass.
Make sure that you lawn mower is adjusted for the grass height you would like. Once you have confirmed that your grass is dry you can start mowing! Aim to use a consistent up and down pattern and overlap your mowing rows. That will give you a nice professional cut which is bound to look great.
Obviously it depends on your local area however as a general rule you want to make sure you mow before 6:00 p.m. That will help to avoid there being dew on the lawn which could settle on the grass blades. Wet grass tends to shred when mowed and can create fungus growth and disease in the grass. Also bear in mind that wet grass can cause clumping of the grass which in turn then clogs the lawn mower.
Once you have finished mowing then you need to use your leaf blower in order to blow any extra grass back into the lawn. Make sure that you don't just put all your equipment away before you have cleaned it thoroughly. Then you can store it away for the next time you will need to mow the lawn. Depending on the season and how quickly your grass is growing that should be about every ten days.

- I don't think I've ever had a class on how to mow a lawn. Fortunately those days are behind us. The last few years I made my husband pay someone to do it so he wouldn't kill himself. Then we got an electric mower...which we gave away to neighbors when we moved into our RV.

- It was a slow day at work today so I got to come home early. So... in honor of National Goof Off Day here in the USA ... I mowed the lawn! That first fresh cut grass of spring has the most wonderful scent. I enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. Oh, I did it my way... I start on the outside perimeter of the yard, push that mower round and round until I end in the middle, surrounded by fresh cut grass.

- I agree with you...there's always right ways and wrong ways. I've always had good success with the Lawn Boy models myself. There's nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass.
