How to Optimize Website for Google and Other Search Engines

Taking up 65% of internet searches, Google is undoubtedly the most popular search engine. It has become a primary means of purchase for many people. With the average rate of one billion search requests on a daily basis, one can easily imagine the number of potential customers using Google for undertaking searches based on their interests and needs. This fact further enunciates how important it is to for your website to rank well.

You can hire the services of many professional SEO consultants who can optimize the ranking of your website in Google. However, if you are willing to undertake search engine optimization yourself, following are some of the steps, which can help you:
  • 1Step 1: Keyword Research

Right use of keywords plays a vital role in search engine optimization. Selection and identification of keywords, which are likely to be used by your target market, is of utmost importance. Professional SEO consultants keep this important aspect in mind while undertaking their assignments. Without the right keywords, you will not be successful in SEO. Using unbeatable keywords or those that are hardly used will bring you no results from SEO perspective.
  • 2Step 2: Mapping Keywords to Web pages

After keyword selection, next comes the part of deciding which web page should be optimized for which keywords. This demands every web page of your website to be separately optimized for best results.
  • 3Step 3: Title Tags

On-page SEO required you to create title tags. Title tags must be unique, must have the selected keywords. Title tag is what tells the spiders and the readers what your web site and web page is about. This tagging is an integral part of SEO. As web page titles show up in Google search engine results, they need to be attractive enough for readers to click and visit your website.
  • 4Step 4: Web Page Headline

Web Page headlines should be thoughtfully crafted. Headlines of the website either compel the reader to read on or repulse the reader from the website. Headlines also have a role when it comes to search engine optimization. Headlines that are crisp, concise and keyword rich can achieve good ranking with search engines. It is imperative that your headline be within the H1 tag and contains appropriate keywords.
  • 5Step 5: Web Copy Writing

Previously, it had been easy to trick search engines by SEO techniques confined to keyword density. However, now search engines are getting more complex and work in sophisticated ways that are hard to keep up with. Excessive keyword use that does not appear natural repulses not just readers but also the search engines. Google, being a highly evolved search engine, has the capability of rightly interpreting the relevance of your webpage, quality of content and benefit for visitors and accords page ranks accordingly. Therefore, it is recommended that you should write as naturally as possible.
  • 6Step 6: Create Your Web Page Names

Another way of achieving search engine optimization is by using keyword specific URLs. For this purpose, Registering completely a new domain name is not essential to get the best results with search engines. It can be achieved simply by including the keyword phrase as part of your web page name.

Keeping in view the above-mentioned points will enable you to attain the best out of SEO- a process essential for your online success.

Few Onsite Search Engine Optimization Tips

Optimize Your Website for Google

Ironically, most of the companies having website do not have the required knowhow of getting their site on search engines. Undoubtedly, it is the originality of the content of the website and the keywords that matter. No matter what type of SEO technique you adopt; manual submissions or auto indexation, either way you want to be relevant. What you want is that spiders should crawl your site and get it indexed and shown in SERPs.

Google, Yahoo, Bing and MSN take up 90 + percent of the search engine market. These are the search engines you are going to target. Although it demands a deliberate strategy even then the basic idea is to attract the spiders.

Domain Age

In organic ranking of search engines as well as Google ad placement, your domain's age is the primary factor. It is important to get domains for at least a year, nothing less and that too from reliable sites.

Choose Your Keywords Wisely

When choosing your domain name, keep in mind that you may not be known by the company's name, rather by the products or services it provides. Therefore, having a domain name that includes that might prove useful in getting the required traffic to your website.

Use Header Tags Wisely and Properly

In order to identify what your page is about, you must ensure that you use header tags wisely and properly.

Organize Your Website Pages

Organizing your pages so that they are easy to navigate shows professionalism not only to your site visitors but also to search engines. It is best to include site map too.

Use Contact Form or Request a Quote Form

Your website does not close during night or at times when your business is closed. So, you must add a section thereby providing a platform for the website visitors to contact you through "contact form" or "request a quote" form.

Add Meta Descriptions to Your Pages

In order to provide "sneak - preview of your page contents", add Meta Description containing HTML characteristics thereby providing precise explanation of each of the web pages contents.

Google Loves Fresh Content so Consistently Update Your Site with Original and Fresh Content

Your website and blog should contain original content and you must contain topics, products, service containing targeted key words. Not everyone knows you by name but by your product or service. After carrying out deliberate research formulating contents enriched with key words, your website is ready to be live on the site. After hitting the "SUBMIT" button, you want your post to be in front of the eyes of everyone and this is only possible once you use keywords enriched content to get your web page quickly indexed.

I'm afraid that I'm not very scientific when choosing my topics and crafting my lenses. Mostly I rely on my librarian background for topic wording (keywords) and so far that is working pretty well for me.

More generally I would say that the target keyword should be included in any H tag not just H1 tags. Although it should not be done at the expense of having good readable content for the user.

Google loves valuable, unique, relevant useful content that returns the results that people are "searching" for...if you create valuable content then Google will over time rank your website or pages highly in their search results.

Oh btw, I think Google no longer looks at the meta & keywords tag of a website when it comes to rating it for its rank/position in searches.
