How to Put Music On An iPod Touch
1) Accessing Your iPod Touch Within iTunes
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes!

If you're running on "PC Logic," you'll have to throw it away at the moment. As you know, this is an Apple product, and things don't work the way your Windows-run PC does.
For starters, connect your iPod Touch to your computer via the USB cable. The iPod will appear on the left-hand sidebar. Highlight it, and you should see a screen similar to the one above.
2) Select the "Media" Folder Tab That You Want
Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts or Photos

Next, you'll notice this listing of tabs at the top of the screen where your iPod is highlighted. In this tutorial, we're focused on uploading music. However, for any other mediums, simply click that particular tab to edit its settings, and see what's currently on your iPod.
So, click "Music" here.
3) Drag & Drop MP3s to a Folder On Your iPod Touch
How to upload music to an existing iPod folder

This is where it gets annoying if you're an iPod newbie. It can be downright frustrating to figure out how the hell you're supposed to get music to your iPod. The reality of it is that you can either have it upload via "sync," which involves putting music on a specified folder on your hard drive and automatically having your iPod Touch notice and auto-upload them, or you can drag and drop them. I prefer dragging and dropping, because I like the sense of knowing exactly what is going on, and having manual control over it.
See the folder called "Video Game Music" on the left hand sidebar? I created that folder myself. So, if I want to add MP3s to that folder, I simply highlight the MP3s on my hard drive and drag/drop them directly into that folder. It's that simple.
Note that wherever you've dragged/dropped those MP3s from is where iTunes will "remember" their location on your PC. So, it will check back to re-synch those files if you've set your iPod to synch every time you start up iTunes. This might result in annoying pop-up errors if you've moved those files since last usage.
Umm, So, How Do You Create A Folder?
I wasn't going to leave you hanging! Here's how:
The next question you might have had was how I created that "Video Game Music" folder. That's actually pretty easy, but also a little annoying. On the "Playlist" section of the left-hand sidebar, click and highlight anything in there with your mouse...iTunes DJ, Music Videos, Top Rated, etc. Whatever. Once you've highlighted something, go to "File > New Playlist" from the top menu. It's annoying because the menu option for "New Playlist" will appear ghosted unless you highlight something else on the menu. Weird.
This will create a new untitled folder of which you can name. Call it whatever you want - but know that it will also be called that on your iPod Touch. So, if you named it something like "80s music," you can find all of your 80s music MP3s on your PC, highlight them all, then drag/drop them on to this new folder. The folder will change colors to let you know you're properly "on" it. Then, just release the mouse and drop them in.
4) Sync It!
You've *told* it what music to include...now, upload the music!

Now that you've defined what you want to go on to your iPod, it's time to get it on there. Simply click that "Sync" button on the lower right of your screen. Make sure your iPod Touch is still selected on the left sidebar in order to see the Sync button. Once clicked, iTunes will upload all of the stuff from your folder(s) on to your iPod Touch.
That's it...you're done!
More Tips for Putting Stuff on an iPod Touch
- By following the logic of this tutorial, you can also upload movies, pictures and other things to your iPod Touch in the same fashion.
- Want to delete music (or anything else) from your iPod Touch? The extremely annoying part is that you'll have to do it through iTunes. Simply click the folder where your music is located (like the "Video Game Music" one seen above), then highlight and right click individual MP3s and choose "delete," then re-Sync. Remember, in order for any change in iTunes to take effect on the iPod Touch, you'll have to Sync.
Did this help you get music on your iPod Touch?
I hope this helped - please let me know if it did, or if you need more clarification!
