How to Read More

Ranked #7,412 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #265,012 overall

Getting more reading into your day

Reading is a very important aspect of both education and entertainments in life, however it's also something that many people don't feel like they do enough of. Many people feel they don't have enough time, don't remember or just can't seem to make it an everyday thing for them. They always aim to read more but never get round to it. I know personally during the new year holiday season I always say I'm going to read more but never get round to it. So here are a few tips I hope will help people read more and which I'm trying to use to read more during the year. Thanks for visiting.

Make it a habit

One of the most effective ways to ensure something gets done, easily and effectively, is to make it a habit. We all everyday do countless routines without even realising, on autopilot you might say. So the best way to get more reading done during your day is to make it a habit that you do everyday, so pick a time when your going to sit down and read and how long you want to read for, and stick to that routine. Then soon it'll become just a habit that you do everyday without realising, and it just becomes a part of your day.

Get your own space

Another tip for how to read more is make a personal space where you read. So this ties in with the making it a habit tip, if you have a space where you read you'll become accustomed to reading in that place and if you make it somewhere comfortable and relaxing, somewhere you enjoy being you'll feel more inclined to actually read.

Reading Books

Accept what you like

The problem for some people is that they think there are certain types of books we are supposed to read such as great literature or hard hitting non-fiction. That's not the case, sure some people will say some books are more educational than others, or have a higher esteem, but that doesn't mean anything, it's purely a matter of opinion. I know for myself as a university student, when I'm reading outside of university work I don't want a serious book, or a book that is going to take a lot of effort, I want a nice casual entertaining book that'll give me a bit of a break from harder work. So to get more reading into your life, accept the books you like and don't try and force yourself to read a book your not interested in. If your interested in it you'll want to read it, whereas if your not interested in it and your reading it because you feel you have to you won't want to read it and it will feel like a chore, so of course if you can you will avoid it.

Indeed I can read for hours and hours. I especially enjoy having my Kindle, so I have lots of books at my disposal all the time. And as a senior citizen, I like being able to enlarge the font. I think as a society we don't read enough, and I enjoyed reading your views encouraging reading. Keep it up!

I love to read, but let the Internet eat up much of my free time. Sure, I'm being productive creating content on the Internet, but need to set aside time to recharge the mind with reading.

Developing reading as a habit surely helps us learn more. There are always new things that we never realized which are 'out there'. Thanks for sharing your tips. :)

Nice tips! I'm through with those experiences before. I like to read books that interest me. If I don't feel to read the book but the professor required us to do, it's like forcing things you didn't want so it ended up either you passed that subject but you gradually forget what you have read or failed the subject because everything you read doesn't get inside your mind. Anyway, nice lens! :)

Yeah, always makes me laugh when people try to force themselves to read something because they think it makes them look smart when they actually have no interest in it
