Don't despair over your lost files.

If you have lost or deleted important files from your hard drive, and you are sure that they have been deleted, then there is no need to panic. Help is at hand.

Recycle Bin. 

The first stop for deleted files.

The first place to look after you have deleted or lost a file, is in the recycle bin. With any luck the file will be there just waiting for you to click on restore, and just like magic you your precious files are back where they belong. Sadly if you have emptied your recycle bin or have deleted the file with another application, it may not be as simple as that.

All is not lost there is still a way to recover the files. But first you must reduce the amount you are using your pc.

Even when you have empted the recycle bin your file is still on the hard drive. Only the reference to the file has been removed. Windows does not remove the file but allocates it to be written over, but this does not happen straight away.
So recovery is still an option, but continued use of the computer is dangerous. The likelyhood is that the computer will reuse all or part of the file's disk space for something else.

Because windows does not come with a file restore package, You may have to invest in a third party software.

Master Uneraser 

The rescue software of choice

My recommended software to rescue you files is Master Uneraser. Master Uneraser supports most storage media. This means that you can restore a song you deleted from the memory stick of your mp3 player or a picture shot that you erased from your camera.
The program processes digital cameras, external drives, including flash and USB. Importantly, Master Uneraser will retrieve files lost in an accidental or deliberate file deletion, because of a virus or worm infection, an unexpected system shutdown or a crash, a software failure and system errors.

After The Rescue 

The need to backup

Very few people back up thier files and in not doing so leave them self open to a loss of important files.

If you really do not have the time to back up your files. Then what about having it done automatically.
Your computer is filled with irreplaceable files: emails, photos, music, business contacts and financials. Carbonite automatically and securely backs up the irreplaceable contents of your computer .

By default, Carbonite backs up everything in your Documents and Settings folder, including documents, photos, email and data files from applications, such as Quicken, Money, etc. Once a subscription is purchased, music is also added to the list. The default backup does not include programs, system files, temporary files, videos, or individual files greater than 4GB. You can, however, manually add any of these to your Carbonite backup.
