Great ideas! We have never tried reconstructing old clothes. What we usually do is hand over the old clothing to those who need it most.

I'm surprised that this is listed in healthy living, but I guess I don't quite get all of the new categories yet. Anyway, I am just stopping back to leave a little angel dust. ***Blessed***

I'm actually a snob when it comes to clothing -- I buy it from the retailer. But after reading your lens, I'm thinking I should give thrift a try. Frugality is a good thing, especially in this economy.

Something that stuck out as I read through this fabulous lens on how to recycle our clothes was the little factoid of throwing out an average of 35 pounds a year in old clothing. Wowsers! My Squid Angel bell rings out a Blessing for your terrific ideas to upcycle and repurpose our old clothes.

This is a great lens and inspires me to be creative again. When I was a teen, i used to take my baysitting money and buy fabric to make my own clothes. I used to take my old jeans and make skirts out of them or embroider designs on them where they had worn. There are lots of ways to recycle clothing nd my friends and I enjoyed sharing ideas. I even made things for my friends, like handbags.
  • MeltedRachel Aug 28, 2009 @ 4:33 am | delete

Remaking clothes is a passion for me. I started when I was a teen (I'm a grand mother now) and haven't stopped yet - my daughter is also a fan of altered and upcycled fashions. We scour the fabric and thrift stores all the time looking for new project ideas. Love this lens! 5*
  • ChapelHillFiddler Aug 17, 2009 @ 6:10 am | delete
One of the best lenses I've ever seen. I buy skirts at the Goodwill which are made of a certain kind of rayon I like and then cut them down into 6-gored skirts that are easy to travel with. I love this and plan to lensroll it to several of mine and come back to study it later! Recycling and sewing, what a dynamite combination. Thanks!

Wow, I never knew there were so many resources on reusing clothes. Probably I say in my grandmother generation this was so common to use every scrap of material for something. The stuffed animals are really cute, the best I did as a kid was make hand puppets with socks, ha! So much more now....
  • lou16 Feb 5, 2009 @ 2:25 am | delete
Some great ideas - last year I turned one of my daughter's toddler shorts into a cushion for on her bed...........she thought I was wonderful. I got a sewing machine for Xmas so I'm planning on trying out alot more 'reconstruction'.
