Develop Initial Bedroom Decorating Ideas
Planning and more planning is key!
What kind of picture do you want to paint in your bedroom? Peaceful and tranquil - or bright and cheery, a positive way to start the day? If you are somewhat at a loss, start perusing design magazines and cut out pictures that appeal to you. Check out internet sites on decorating and design. Copy and paste pictures that strike you to a file on your computer to refer back. Choose overall bedroom looks, as well as accessories you like. Analyze your collection of pictures to determine what it is you like about each. Maybe it's the color, the styles, or certain accent pieces. Some things will eventually be eliminated. But this will be a start to create your bedroom remodel. Find an Inspiration Piece
More decorating ideas will build from it!
Another approach is to begin your project working with an inspiration piece. Maybe it's a decorative pillow that you love, a vase, artwork, or the cover of a journal or scrapbook. Do one or more of these have a color palette or feeling that they evoke that you can build upon in your bedroom redecorating process? You can often pull colors, themes, and a style from one specific piece, and build upon that. Decorating Books

The Color Wheel
If you are nervous about color, consider a more neutral color for walls, furniture and perhaps the window treatments. Color can be added with the bedding and accessories. This approach gives you the option to make decorating changes more easily at a later date, if you wish. The Color Wheel is a representation of colors and how they blend with or oppose each other. The idea for your bedroom remodel is to create harmony, something pleasing to the eye. It creates and inner sense of order and visual balance.
Some basic formulas based on the color wheel:
Monochromatic colors - composed of one hue in different values and intensities. It is simple and works well with traditional and contemporary interiors. Creates sophistication, elegance, and is unified and relaxing.
Analogous colors - any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel. Also creates a soothing and very coordinated effect.
Complementary colors - any two colors which are directly opposite each other. These opposing colors create maximum contrast and stability.
There are further variations, but this will suffice for our purposes. A deeper study is a topic for another lens!
Use this to refer to. Determine which of these formulas apply to the room photos and accessories that appeal to you, and proceed from there.

Artwork in Bedroom Redecorating
Use Pieces You Love

Buy at AllPosters.com
Artwork is an important part of your bedroom makeover. It may be your initial inspiration piece, and you may wish to add pieces after you room is mainly complete. It is helpful when your art pieces blend with the decor in your room, but keep in mind, the most important thing is is that the art is a piece you like. Use pieces that speak to you, make you feel good. Artwork doesn't necessarily have to "match" the room either, although tying it in to your decorating scheme does add to the overall appearance.
The Next Step in Your Bedroom Remodel
Take a Trip to the Paint Store
Do you want your bedroom to be restful and peaceful? Then consider the monotone color palette, one using 2 or 3 shades of the same color. Beige, white, and brown, for example, or three varying shades of blue or green. If you lean towards the more contemporary, gray, white, and small accents of black can still be peaceful.
It's off to the paint store! If you have an inspiration piece you'd like to incorporate, and you can take it with you, do so. Take home several paint strips of colors that work with the inspiration piece and/or colors you are drawn to.
Make an Idea Board for Bedroom Makeover
Organize and Plan
Now you are ready to put your bedroom redecorating ideas together visually. Gather up your favorite paint strips and pictures. Get a piece of white poster board (so you get an accurate representation of your paint colors). Layout and arrange all your ideas. Include paint swatches, your favorite lamp, decorative pillows. artwork or decorative plates(these are an inexpensive colorful way to dress up your walls and add some "pop"), fabric swatches, accent chairs and/or tables, and any decorative accessories you love. This should allow you to reach some organized decisions on what your bedroom redecorating plan will be.
Considerations in Your Bedroom Color
Be Conservative, Test it Out

Once you decide what you think you'd like as your wall color, keep in mind the following things. If the room doesn't get a lot of light, think about going a shade or two lighter on the paint strip. You may want to buy a quart of the paint you are considering and paint a 3' x 3' section on the wall to make sure you like it. It often looks very different than in that small sample on the paint strip. Keep in mind the paint will reflect off itself once all 4 walls are painted, and seem yet more intense. Unless you are going with a neutral color on the walls it is often best to decide on the bedding , as the bed will most likely be the main focal point of your bedroom redo. I know too many people who painted the room first, only to be frustrated trying to find bedding they liked that coordinated with the wall color.
Your Redecorating Project - Budget Shopping
Creativity and Improvisation is Key

Since this site is about redecorating your bedroom, not redesigning your bedroom, we will assume that all the major furniture pieces in your room will stay. If you do wish to make some changes, or add some pieces, for budget purposes you should limit your changes to, perhaps a chair or lamps. Eclectic furniture in bedrooms, rather than matching bedroom sets are considered a more updated look these days. That gives you the freedom to be more creative in your redecorating. Perhaps you can bring in accent tables from another room for night stands. I recommend searching thrift and consignment stores. for accent pieces, artwork, and accessories for your bedroom make over. If you are somewhat handy and creative, you can repaint pieces that may not be in great shape. With the eclectic style, it is perfectly acceptable to mix natural wood pieces with painted pieces.
I am a big proponent of having a unique wood frame chair with a fabric/cushion seat. With only scissors and a staple gun you can create a co-ordinating accent piece simply by covering the seat with a small piece of fabric that ties into the color theme of your bedroom.

- Great starter info on redecorating. I've done it several times and finally settled on a style I like. I agree on the wallpaper issue. I still have one bathroom wallpapered and wish it wasn't.
