How to Remove Security Essentials 2010 (or 2011)

Once the Trojan pretending to be a Flash update downloads the Security Essentials 2010 (or 2011) malware, the fun begins. You will start to get numerous warnings that your computer is infected with various viruses, adware and malware. Funny that this is all coming from malware itself. The messages tell you that your computer and your personal information is at high risk and the only way to save it is to download their software and pay for it. You don't want to pay for it nor download it, so you try to exit the window. It pops up again. You click the "x" for the window to go away and it refuses. Soon you are being tormented by pop ups that declare your computer is about to explode. Well not explode, but die a miserable death anyway and all your personal information will spread across the web like wild fire.

When you try to get on-line, your homepage has changed and instead you get a Security Essentials page that ask you to scan your computer because there are horrible viruses on it. You can't get it to go away. No matter how many times you change your homepage back in the options of your browser it always goes back to the same page.

Another symptom is you cannot execute any programs. If you double click on a program to start it, you will get a message that the program is some type of virus and has been terminated. So, now you can't run any software that is on your computer to get rid of Security Essentials. You also can't download anything to remove it because it blocks it and says that the download is infected.

Now, throwing your computer out the window might sound like a good idea, but don't give up on it just yet. You can stop Security Essentials from driving you insane and once again allow you to connect to the internet in peace. Through the years, I have developed a set of steps that I use to remove Security Essentials and other types of malware and adware.
