Easy on the Gas George!
One of the simplest and most productive ways of saving gas is to drive slower! Well you knew that didn't you? But part of the fun of driving is the thrill from a bit of speed and also the need to get somehwere in a decent time!
Well without being a "Killjoy", you can have the best of both worlds! Driving too slowly will cost you fuel as the car is less effficient, town traffic and those stupid traffic "calming" (they might calm the traffic down for a minute or two but thay enrage most mortorists, including me!)measures cause cars to slow down and then speed up, using more fuel.
So to get a decent speed (within legal speed limits , of course!) drive briskly through the gears to top gear and then ease your foot off the throttle (not "accelerator" thats not the term we are using here!) just back off a lttle and you will see that your car will continue at a decent speed and it will be using a lot leass fuel. Just the occasional dab on the throttle will maintain the desired speed.
Cant't wait to start saving? Of you go then! Learn the Truth about fuel saving devices

Keep It Going!
Of course if the road starts to climb a hill you will need to press the throttle pedal a bit more. If it gets steep make sure you change down to keep reasonable revs on the engine otherwise your foot will be to the floor and you will be slowing down but with the throttle pedal to the floor your will also be using massive amounts of fuel! So THINK about what your are doing!
The further your press the "accelerator" the more gas you will be using. The LESS you press the less you will use! The more money you'll save, I like that bit!

The Easy Bit For saving Fuel!
Go for this!
When you go up a hill you keep as least a pressure on the throttle as possible to maintain your speed, changing down if necessary in a manual car(more about automatics later!)
The joy of this is in most cases when you reach the summit of the climb almost certainly there will be a downhill section! Whoopee! Lets go!
Er.. no, not quite; if you want to maximise your fuel savings without holding up the rest of the world behind you!
Once more get to a suitable speeed quickly and then as before just ease that right foot, you will find that you can considerably reduce the pressure and your car will run smoothly and appropriately, down the hill, without out breaking the speed limit, your neck and your wallet (purse for the ladies, we're PC here you know!). Its soooooooo simple, just ease off the gas a little and save...right now!

Saving fuel with Automatic gearboxes
The best way to save fuel with a car that has an auto box is to sell it and get a manual version! Its true!.... look at all the consumption figures for your car in its different guises and you will see autos are the least fuel efficient. Dont think that the smallest engine is the most efficient, either, you will be surprised to see that it is often the middle range engines that are more fuel efficient because they don't have to work so hard to power your car. Logical really!
