How To Scan Documents For Storage
Ranked #19,801 in Computers & Electronics, #390,118 overall
If you want to know how to scan, the process is quite simple if you follow a few simple steps. Scanning is one way that documents on paper can be translated or copied to exist in a virtual world of computers so that you will have access to them electronically. Scanners are different machines and some operate a little differently, but for the most part there are general steps you can take to scan a document.
There are two ways to begin the scanning process. One way is to start it by opening a scanning program on your computer which will walk you through the steps of scanning. If you are unsure of how to scan this way, then usually you can begin at the scanner itself. If you walk over to the scanner, you will probably see that it has several buttons if it is a universal scanner that also does faxes and copying. You will want to lift the lid and put your piece of paper face down on the glass. Then, close the lid back up. After this is complete, hit the button which should be marked "scan". The machine should begin scanning.
If it does not, it may be asking you where you want the document to be scanned to. On some machines you can scan directly to email or a file, in addition to sending the scan to your computer. So make sure to select where you want the scan to go. If you want to know how to scan to your computer, it should be clearly marked. Just select "computer".
Once you hit the scan button, you should hear the machine start to rev up and see the light go across the page. This means the machine is scanning in your document, which means it is taking a picture of it and storing that picture as a file for your computer. Once you have a document scanned, you can open it up on your computer or email it or print it back out on paper. This is how to scan.Once you are finished scanning, make sure that you remove your original piece of paper from the scanner. Walk over to your computer and make sure that you can see the file up and then make sure to save the file with the name of your choosing. And that is how to scan - it's not too difficult, once you get the hang of it.
