How to Set Up a Wordpress Blog On GoDaddy

To set up and host your own Wordpress blog you need to purchase a domain name. When I started, I used GoDaddy for my first domain purchase, and used it ever since. I recommend you do too because they are easy and cheap. See below for GoDaddy discount codes.

In GoDaddy, click "create an account" on the upper left portion of the window to create an account. I marked it red on the picture.


After you've registered and signed in, search for your desired domain name on the upper right portion to see if it is available. I marked it blue, this time. I suggest you choose .com domains because they are super popular.

Is your domain of choice available? No? You better choose another. If yes, then great! Now, click proceed to registration. I marked it blue on the picture below.


Now GoDaddy will offer you something you CAN'T refuse... not. Just click NO THANKS, then carry on with the registration:

Basically, we need to check out our domain whilst refusing the other offers.

1. They might ask for your log in information again. Give them what they need.
2. Reduce registration to 1 year. Click NEXT.
3. Just click NEXT.
4. Select "No,thanks, check out now". Click NEXT.

After that, select your payment method, read the two agreements and continue with checkout.

Wait for a confirmation email from GoDaddy telling you the registration is complete. Keep your GoDaddy username and password for later use.

There are a lot of hosting companies to choose from. I have been using GoDaddy for a long time. Some people prefer one company over another but I can honestly say that so far (the last 2 years) that I have not had any problems with GoDaddy. HostGator is another good hosting company. They are well known and their customer support is just superb. I can guarantee they will super patiently answer all questions!

Just type in your details and your desired registration details and payment options. Click create account.

One the order is complete, you will receive an email from sales@hostgator.com that specifies your domain name servers, your username and your default password (which you can change later).

Go back to your GoDaddy account (if you logged out, sign back in) then click MY ACCOUNT on the upper right. Look for your domain under MY DOMAINS and click Advanced Details. This will bring you to your domain manager.

In the domain manager, click SET NAMESERVERS on the lower left portion. Select "I have specific nameservers" and add the URL's from the email you got from HostGator. This will direct your domain to your HostGator account.


After that you would just have to wait for the domain name to propagate throughout the net. It takes a few hours, so do something else.

OK, so you waited a few hours. Now it is time to install your blog!

To access your control panel, type in your domainname plus /cpanel on the address bar. That means on our example, we will type in: "gogreatgranddaddy.com/cpanel" you will need your username and password from the email you received from HostGator.

In your control panel, click Fantastico Deluxe.


Now, click on WordPress and Click New Installation. On the WordPress installation page:


Supply all the needed information. However, change the e-mail into your active contact e-mail and the title into your desired title!

Now you have set up your hosted wordpress blog it is time to chose a theme. This is the fun part! There are hundreds of free and premium themes (paid for) and it is all down to personal taste and what you want you blog to do.

After you have signed into your wordpress blog click on Themes on the left and you will be given options for hundreds - have fun!.

I really love the Atahualpa WordPress theme. It is super customize-able, and you need very little HTML knowledge to customize it! And there are tons of tutorials on the internet, too!
