You need few things to Softmod Wii by Bannerbomb, some are hardware and software.

• A Nintendo Wii console with system menu from 3.1 to 4.3, it doesn't matter if it is u, j or e (US, JP or EU).
• PC with Windows or Mac operating system

Then click on the Erase tab and go to Volume format dropdown menu and select FAT16 option. Assigning a name for your SD card is optional and will not affect the process. Finally click on Erase, confirm that you want to erase and you're done formatting.

Bannerbomb version 1 was the first Wii Softmod software that replace the old twilight hack method that requires the original Zelda game. This method was considered universal because it works on Wii system menus from 3.1 to 4.1 while the twilight hack works on Wii 3.1 to 3.4 only with lots of problems. 1. The first step is to turn off WiiConnect24. Before you begin Softmodding Wii using Bannerbomb, it is highly recommended to turn off WiiConnect24 this will prevent Nintendo updates from blocking your Softmod. Don't worry, you can still browse the internet using internet channel. This step is done as follows:-
   
   Open Wii options menu, click on Wii settings. A page titled "Wii system settings 1" appears. Move to the second page "Wii system settings 2" and click on WiiConnect24 button. Inside the WiiConnect24 page click on "WiiConnect24" button and click on "off" button and that's it. See picture below.
   
   


2. Just note that the SD card should be formatted with FAT16 and it is preferable to be completely empty. Just check the properties of the SD card if you have any doubts. Plug the SD card into the card reader to your PC.

   



3. Try to do these steps carefully sometimes small error will make the process not to work. Now you need the Bannerbomb files to begin the process. Copy this file "boot.elf" (not the folder) & past it to the root of your SD card (you can see "private" folder in the root of SD card, do not paste the file inside the folder paste it on the root of SD card). Now the SD card should contain "private" folder and "boot.elf" file only. See picture below:-

5. Take off the SD card from the SD reader. Important: now remove any unnecessary controllers, USB, disks, internet connection or anything else from Wii because it might cause interference with the Wii homebrew channel and cause it not to install correctly.


6. Now it's the time to turn on your Nintendo Wii console. Press Wii option button, a setting menu will appear containing data management and Wii settings, go to data management. Select channels and in the following screen select SD card. Important: now it is time to insert your SD card to Wii. A pop up window will show "load boot.dol/elf?". 7. Select "yes" from pop up window and that means your Wii Softmod is a success and the the process will start. The Softmod installer will install the Wii homebrew channel, DVDx and maybe install Bootmii on Wii.

Bannerbomb 2 is the second version of Bannerbomb method and uses the same concept to Softmod Wii but it works on system version 4.2 only. This process came after Nintendo Co. did few changes to Wii system menu causing the original method not to work properly. 2. The Bannerbomb 2 also requires the SD card should be completely empty and formatted with FAT16 file system before Softmodding Wii v4.2 by Bannerbomb 2. If you got files or saved games on it, copy them somewhere. If there are any files on it, it might not work. Now attach the SD card into card reader to your PC.

5. Startup your Wii console but don't plug the SD card in it yet. Select SD menu (not Wii menu like bannerbomb 1) and click on SD icon from there (This is different from the Bannerbomb 1 method). Now it is time to insert SD card into Wii, a popup menu will say "Load boot.dol/elf?".

   



6. Select "yes" from pop up window and that means the process for Softmodding Wii 4.2 will start and you will be prompted to install the Homebrew Channel, DVDx and may install Bootmii.
