Removing Weeds
Among the best ways to remove weeds is to simply cover the area using a black plastic or many layers of cardboard, paper or other material to dam out the sun. As all plants would need both water and daylight, eliminating one of the elements would surely suppress weed growth.
Card and paper are among the best choices as these would break down in the soil. The ink on paper is a big problem to some gardeners using organic methods but in comparison to chemical herbicide choices, it is likely to be the very best among the worst. When you already have the area covered and are using paper or card to suppress weed, you can now start adding organic matter over the card.

- Great work. I remember starting a garden from scratch as a kid - digging a plot in the vacant lot near wher I lived. The grass and weeds were killer - and it was so much work - but worth the results.
