How to stay safe when you like to date online
1. Create a profile with limited information about your real identity .a) Never use your full name. Use a pseudonym (fictitious name).
b) Revealing an age or birthday is not a problem.
c) Do not be specific on your home address. A state/province and country is enough.
d) Upload only 1 or 2 recent and decent photos. Do not upload family photos.
e) Write your interests, activities and hobbies but do not indicate your favorite hang out place especially when you are by yourself.
f) Create an e-mail address for the sole purpose of online dating. Never use/give e-mail address for business transaction , family and real life friends communication. Hacking an account is common. Never share your password too.
g) Never give your home telephone and mobile number.

2. Check keenly the profile of someone contacting you or you're contacting with .A) Check if the profile photo(s) are match with the basic personal information stated like the eyes, hair color, height, weight, age and body built.
B) Check if the photo(s) are edited, photoshop or stolen photos of a model or a celebrity.
C) Check the writing style.

4. Never share indecent photos/videos. It maybe use against you in the future. Be Smart
5. Use pre-paid simcard to your mobile phone for the sole purpose of online dating. Check the area code in the white/yellow pages or search in Google. Be careful of +4470 a UK number BUT also a computer generated number which will direct the call anywhere in the world.6. Tell a close family member or close friend when you are dating online with a particular person. Listen to what they are saying.
Never fall to any sob stories. Remember, anyone can be anybody in the internet.

7. Don't be blindly generous.Never wire/send money to someone you only meet in the internet.8. Never open any bank account for their transaction. Never divulge your bank account details, driver's license, citizen ID or any personal ID's. Keep it to yourself.
9. Do not be greedy . Never accept any cheque from someone you know online. Beware of cheque fraud. A criminal offense that may lead you to jail.
10.Never accept any "shipment" addressed to you .

- All the useful insights in here! Too bad that only a few of those who use online dating actually pay attention to these basic rules.
Sometimes, it helps even if you only share dating experiences with others, cause learning from others' mistakes is better than learning from your owns.

- Another good way to check someone out is to get their full name and do a Google search on them- you would be surprised what kind of accounts/images etc you might find which might give you a better idea of the persons background and history. If you find nothing, that could be interesting too.

- You are right Karina but sometimes they used fake names so the best way to check someone aside from their full names are their e-mail address as no two individual will holds two the same e-mail address while there are possibilities that multiple individuals share the same names :)

- Really great tips for people! I had a friend, she recently passed away, that was conned by a man she met on a dating site. He took her for $500. People really have to be careful because there are so many dangerous and manipulative people out there. Great information, thank you for sharing it
