How To Stop Bedwetting

Bedwetting can be very embarassing both to the child and the parent. It's also often a source of tension in the household.

In this article, I'll show you exactly how to stop bedwetting once and for all with these simple tips. But before I go into the details, I want to address some myths that might have been holding you back from treating your child.

A lot of people fall for these myths. I don't want you to be one of them. Here goes.

Bedwetting Myth #1

Is it caused by laziness?

1. Bedwetting is caused by laziness on your child's part. A recent survey of 9000 parents showed that about 22% of them believed laziness to be the cause of bedwetting. This is absolutely not true. This can seriously hit your child's self-confidence if you reprimand him for that.

Bedwetting (or what is called primary nocturnal enuresis or PNE) is a phenomenon that is caused by physical or psychological factors.

Bedwetting Myth #2

Will my child gorw out of it?

2. Some parents assume bedwetting to be a common childhood trouble, and so are unwilling to put in time to get it resolved. Don't be one of them.

Approximately 20% of children between 5 and 6 wet their bed. Fortunately for you, bedwetting is easy to stop if you do it correctly.

Bedwetting Myth #3

Embarassing to seek help?

3. Many children (and parents alike) feel bedwetting is embarassing, and thus refuse to seek help. If you know someone who have had the same problem you're having, ask them for advice (For the sake of a good night sleep!).

There's nothing to be embarassing about suffering from myopia, asthma and other disorders so why would you be embarassed about PNE?

Getting The Right Bedwetting Alarm

If you haven't already done so, get yourself a moisture detecting alarm. This device is a god-send for parents with bedwetting children. Believe it or not, moisture detector alarms can actually treat bedwetting by training your child's brain to wake up when he/she feels the urge to go.

What they basically do is detects moisture in your child's underpants and emits an alarm to wake your child up to go to the toilet. The objective is to his/her brain to anticipate the alarm before it actually goes off.

But not all of them are made equal. It depends on your needs and here are a few factors you might want to consider.

1. Is it comfortable to wear? If it is going to get in the way of your child's sleep, there's a good chance he/she may not wear it often enough for it to work.

2. Can it be cleaned easily? Since it'll be soaked in urine once in a while, you want a design that makes it easy for you to clean it.

3. How loud is the alarm? This have to depend on your child. Is he/she a light or heavy sleeper? Do you want to wake up too or do you want your child to take care of himself?

4. Some bedwetting alarm are a pain to use. It'd be great to buy one that your child can use by himself/herself.

The Other Problem You Shouldn't Miss

Don't get too hectic managing bedwetting to be uninformed with its consequences - such as skin soreness. Garbage substances in the urine can possibly inflame the skin - transforming it red, raw and blistering if not dealt with directly.

Ensure you bath him/her following every night and I suggest using coconut oil to handle dried up skin and other skin problems. Many skin medication prescribed by doctors include dangerous items so I advise steering clear of from it.
